If you want to cancel a session, simply because you don't feel like talking, how do you do this? Do you give any explanation or not? Imagining the policy allows you to cancel, of course.

And do you feel like you have to tak about this the next time you meet your T?

I go regardless of whether I want to talk. Sometimes the appointments you don't want to go to are the best ones for you.

I cancel when I want to take a break or just don't feel like going. I give the appropriate notice. I usually do not explain unless asked and usually the woman does not ask.

I never cancel. If I don't feel like talking, I take that feeling to therapy.

My T has always said I don't have to talk or do anything except show up. Sometimes I test him on that!
Thanks for this!

My thoughts on it change so quickly, I don't cancel because I would regret it later. Therapy is kinda my lifeline. If I don't want to talk about anything heavy in a session I simply focus on lighter stuff.

I have told her I think I should stop seeing her (by text yesterday) and I see her tomorrow - I hope she won't take me up on that as I really don't want to stop seeing her - it all just felt pointless. I wish I hadn't said that.

Can you write her back and tell her all of this?

I have just texted her and told her just this. Now I feel even more pathetic! I just wish I had your insight. I seem to work myself up before my session and then the time just goes without me really expressing what i need to. Super frustrating!

I know it's really hard. I work myself up before session ALL THE TIME. I think it's pretty normal, even if it is painful.

I find canceling every so often a great way both to assess myself and to regroup and refocus.

I only canceled once, and then I just texted and said cant make it. My T actually asked if everything was ok, and I just said yes. I could have made it, was just overwhelmed with my feelings and didn't want to go there at the moment. I wouldn't think an explanation is necessary, unless you want to explain. If you want to talk about your reluctance to talk, LOL .

I have cancelled. Sometimes I need to get my thoughts in order. My therapist has never tried to talk me out of it or make me feel like I am doing it wrong. she might in the future but for now, it isn't an issue.

I've never cancelled. I have gone and told her I don't want to be there though. So she usually just says we can talk about anything. So we talk about anything. And it works out fine.
