I'm curious to ask T if I can. Curious to what she has observed and written down.

I think it depends on the centre's policies. I once asked my therapist if I could have access to my file. She said that she wasn't allowed to show her files at her previous workplace, but that she would check with her supervisor. In the end, it turned out that not only was she allowed to let me see my file, I was allowed to get a photocopy of the files from each of my sessions (for a fee). I know it can be nerve-wracking to ask, but it really can't hurt, especially if you're curious.

Legally, they are required by law to give you your file unless they can prove that it will cause you psychological harm. Don't let them tell you it's "company policy" to reject requests for files. That is illegal.

its your legal right to have them, but most drs refuse to give them to you bc it could negatively impact your mental health-bs but whatever. to avoid having to turn stuff over,. my t just decides not to write notes at all outside of what she has to submit to insurance..

I asked my pdoc today can I read the notes about me, she said that patients are not allowed to read it but she can read some phrases. I asked her- Can I look in notes? She said no. Oh why?
I was thinking even about stealing this notes but I know it's impossible. I want to read it, I saw in my dreams I read it ![]() |

I don't normally ask, but most states legally allow you to see unless your medical professional believes it would be detrimental to your health. I was actaully thinking of asking my current T if I could see what she wrote just because I'm curious. I have found files generally contain factual information on the objective points of contact, with a few ambiguous talking points (at least the ones I have seen so far). It doesn't hurt to ask.

Often there are two sets of files----personal notes from the therapist which aren't subject to law ie the stuff you probably want to see and then the less detailed medical records that typically have more condensed notes including a possible diagnosis and stuff like that. They can always provide you with both but it's only required that they give you what's in your medical record.

My T, for whatever reason, said in my first session that his notes are not private. If I want them I can ask. But as curious as I am I don't want to see them. I hate the idea of our "relationship" being nothing more than post-session scribbled jots.
