I almost always have a fidget toy in my hand (sometimes a stress ball, but I prefer the squishy animals that you can stretch and tie in knots and such). When I first started seeing T I forgot one day and had to ask her for something, a paper clip was all we came up with. A few weeks later she had gone out and bought me a couple of fidget toys which we leave in her office. Except recently she gave to a child to use and now gone. I will bring my own next week. I am a very fidgety person in general.... moreso with T.

Last two sessions her cat has sat on my lap. T said her cat never sits on anyone else. When the cat jumped off, t said 'good, she's a distraction' but I then span off somewhere for a bit and got in a complete muddle, so maybe a good distraction! I think t was just annoyed that her cat likes me too.

I always bring my messenger bag with my journal....I've used writings from my journal on several occasions to guide the session so to speak. I also bring a book:usually a psychology or spiritual book that I've been reading along the way "biblio-therapy" as my psychiatrist likes to call it. Sometimes I'll bring my iPod to listen to in the waiting room but not very often as I'm usually not waiting more than 5 minutes

From about my 3rd session (over a year ago now) I have taken my soft toy panda with me to session and he is now very much part of proceedings. My T suggested it as I found the initial sessions anxiety inducing. It helped massively.

Do you take anything like that to therapy?
Does your therapist keep objects like that in your room for you?
No but what a great idea, it never occurred to me! Thanks for bringing it up.

With the second therapist I was afraid to take anything because of the first therapist.
I don't know your situation or what it was you were working on at the time, but that seems unnecessarily harsh to not be allowed to do that. What is next, you have to sit on your hand so you don't wring them?

Sometimes my reactions amuse me because I can tell pbutton did not see it as any such thing. (At least I don't think the blinky heart thing meant yea I got handed a weapon)

And yes - amazon has a lot of choices of stress/squeeze balls.
That made me chuckle. Nice to see you joking around Stopdog.
