Though I've dropped verbalising how I feel around this, the thing still goes round in my head.
In my head it feels like T has had a mid (later) life crisis and I don't like it. It makes me feel as if T has revealed one of her own 'terrors'. Tomorrow I will bring it up again with her. I am not finished with this. |

I know if this was me, I'd be concerned to.

How much weight has she lost? Was she quite overweight to begin with, and now more health focused, or was she fine to start with and now very slim?
60 is young these days! Definitely a midlife crisis, rather than a later one, I'd say ![]()

Maybe she is just trying to eat and live healthier. Not unusual for people to do.

But this isn't just people. This is therapy and what happens within can trigger all sorts.

Of course. What is it about this that is triggering for you?

Have you asked her if she's been working on losing weight? If she has been, then it would be an indication of healthier living, not becoming ill.

She said she didn't want to end up in a wheel chair or have to use one of those mobility scooter as she gets older.
Which in itself makes sense. But, I wonder had she had something happen to her that has brought that thought forward. I want her to tell me. |

I don't know, for me as I am aging, I am seeing the need to take better care of myself too. I didn't come to that point because anything in particular happened. It was just an awareness of my body's aging process and looking at the reality that I can't keep eating like I did when I was younger. I can't keep living as sedentary I life as I have been. I need to take care of myself because I still have many years ahead of me that I'd like to enjoy without my body breaking down earlier than necessary.

You would be very surprised to see how many people dont make it (ie live) to the 40 year high school reunion, which in the US is around age 58. I think what you do this age period is your last chance to determine how the rest of your life goes, physically. She may have had cousins or friends pass.

But really, a T's lifestyle isn't our business is it? It should be a good thing they take care of themselves.

On the other hand, my parents and their gang of friends are all in their 70's and 80's, and they act like complete spring chickens and are in excellent health because they choose to take care of themselves and live young. I fully expect my parents will make it into their 90's, so the genetics are there that I will to barring accident or cancer. I've seen people whose bodies break down long before the end of their life; I don't want that kind of life. It is preventable. I much prefer to think that in my 80's I'll be like my parents, still traveling and enjoying life without any serious medical issues holding me back.

I'm over 60 and I am trying to lose weight. I started swimming regularly, too. Was your T thin, or overweight? That makes a difference. Are you afraid she's losing weight because she's sick, or do you know that she just wants to be healthier?
I understand your fears about losing your T. I think that's pretty common, but doesn't make it any easier. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
