You added your T on facebook when your sessions together ended? Would they accept or reject? My guess is reject with a message on ethics, but I was wondering what you all thought?

I think it depends = some would be okay and some will refuse.

I do keep in contact with an ex-T, but never thought to add her to Facebook. I also keep in contact with a counselor from the board and care I lived at...she sent me the request to add me to Facebook!

2 past therapists are my friends on Facebook, one current therapist is my friend on Facebook (she runs a group I attend), one other past therapist would probably be my friend if I asked, and the other 3 past and current main T....it will never happen.

My t and i see each others face book pages. She invited me. So i suppose it just depends on the therapist and their views and boundaries.

My pdoc says she wouldn't have a problem , except she is friends with all the other pdocs and nurses at the clinic, some of the other pdocs and nurses know me.
Some pdocs are friends with therapists in the building, so I understand . She lets me see her FB though, either way we been together 2 yrs she discloses quite alot. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I think it would depend on the client.

I think it would depend if they carry a title. For example I don't think an lcsw can be friends with you on facebook or after therapy for at least five years. Even then it's frowned upon. With this said, anyone can practice therapy. So if they aren't licensed then they don't have a license to lose and it won't matter to them as much.

My T had a section on the intake form that said she will not be Facebook friends with current or former clients.

My t doesn't do social media, but if she did, would politely decline citing professional ethics. If I were bold enough to ask, which I would not be lol

Why don't you just out right ask your therapist instead of sending a friendship request and being hurt if it is rejected?
