Well, I've never addressed her by name. She's a PhD psychologist. I thought about asking her what I should call her, but never got around to it. I certainly wouldn't want to be disrespectful. When speaking to the receptionist by phone or checking in upon arrival I say "Dr. Smith,"(not real name of course).
I've never addressed my family doc directly by name either, but usually refer to him in conversation as Dr. Smith, he's kind of famous and people often know who I'm talking about. But what's funny is I'm in a college class with his daughter. She's hot. He would probably not take it kindly if I tried to date her. It kind of came up between he and I, not for real, but joking around. |

Both my Ts are PsyDs. Previous T p-ed me right off by introducing herself as Dr. Therapist and then trying to subtlety (well, entirely un-subtlety to be honest) encourage me to call her by her first name rather than outright inviting me to. I thought it was right rude and responded by very pointedly referring to her as Dr. Therapist. I call T Dr. T. It would feel strange to call him by his name. I'm not sure why, I doubt he'd mind.
