"Therapy only works when we have a genuine desire to know ourselves as we are, not as we would like to be."
I happen to agree with this. To know ourselves, warts and all, is the perhaps the only way to implement change and actually become the person we would like to be.

Would you mind sharing why this quote explains a lot?

I like the quote. For me, I see the warts and all parts of my self very clearly and can't see anything else a lot of the time, so I think that seeing ourselves as we are includes seeing the good in ourselves that is so hard for some of us to see sometimes.

This is me! Going to therapy helps me put the blame where it lies and gets it off my back. And I'm learning to take credit when credit is due, not shyly saying "it was nothing" when it was really hard work. Seeing me as I am means acknowledging that I am missing certain life skills that others are not missing, but I am certainly no monster. Sent from my iPod touch using Tapatalk |
