So I'm in a psychotherapy group run by a psychiatrist and my counsellor. All fine and dandy, I love the group and this is my second time in it. (I get a lot out of it!!)

Last semester when I was in the group for the first time, the psychiatrist was asking all group members to book an appointment with him so he could get to "know" us outside of group. I tried to book, he had a VERY long waiting list. (Months and months... he's very popular on campus, being as he's only here one day a week)

I rebooked YESTERDAY and they phoned me for an appointment NEXT week THIS MORNING.

Funny how that worked out ...

Anyone willing to let me know what to expect question-wise? I don't have a clue and want to not go in and freak out. That would be bad.

I expect in a one on one session he will ask what your goals for the therapy are...what are you working on in your life? Your strengths? Weaknesses? What do you expect from a counselor? What should he expect with you? Just be yourself, if there's anywhere where you can truly be yourself it's in therapy. Let us know how it goes!!

I'd treat him a bit like your counsellor? He did say he just wants to get to know you a bit more, that doesn't sound too bad/hard; like Junerain says, goals, etc. Were I you, I'd be tempted to take a "prop" or two, if I kept a diary I'd take that in or if I did another "art" something I was working on, etc. What outside of therapy are you "working" on/most interested in? Who are you? :-0 LOL
