Hello,
Does anyone here know of any articles concerning the issue of how racial biases/stereotypes can affect the quality of treatment of minority patients and/or patients whose race/gender is different than the doctor's? I am especially interested in articles that discuss this issue in the context of mental health treatment. Thank you in advance for any help. |

I could search a data base and probably come up with a lot. You might want to start at your local library. If your library has a subscription to EBSCOHost, you can access professional journals on mental health and psychology and just about anything, really. If you have a chance to take a Multicultural Psychology class, you will also learn a lot about this topic. Multiculturalism is being emphasized in the training of mental health professionals more and more all the time. Still, some say that it isn't enough. Some students and professionals take to the subject well, and there are a few who don't. But multicultural awareness and advocacy is considered to be a responsibility of mental health professionals. There are entire theories based around it now, as well as feminism.
Good luck! Rap

I am doing research purely for my own edification at this point. However, I am in the process of trying to change careers and have always had more than a casual interest in the behavioral and social sciences.
