Are most therapists open for sessions on sundays? Or is it a "day off" for them as well?

I think MOST therapists do NOT work on Sundays, and few on Saturdays. Can someone fill me in...

I have never heard of a therapist seeing clients on Sunday but there very well could be some. Good luck finding one.

I think if they're self-employed they set their own hours, I don't see anything wrong with seeing someone on a Sunday but don't think it's usual to do so. I'm trying to remember if my T ever made up a session with me on a Sunday and can only remember a lot of Saturdays, guess we didn't "need" a Sunday.

My experience has been they are mostly during the week and week nights. Although, my T did say once that we could go some Saturday somewhere to deal with my going up/down escalators issue.

He does that with patients with certain phobias. So, if that might be an issue for you, some T's may offer that. Mine normally does not do weekends so it was a nice offer.

I would guess that is they work for some kind of public agency / health service they would be more likely to be on standard working hours with weekends off. But then some agencies have 24/7 emergency access available in the case of violent assault or something like that so I would suppose that there would be people rostered on over the weekends and in the middle of the night and the like.

If people are in private practice then they are able to choose, I would expect. It would actually make sense to me that someone in private practice would purposely try and work outside normal working hours so that people who do work can better access their services (e.g., working in the evenings and / or over the weekend). I think it really does depend on the therapist. You might well be able to find someone who works on Sunday if that is what you want. That being said I'm fairly sure that it would be a minority who would work over the weekend so it make it more likely that you could find someone if you lived in a big city somewhere.

I knew one therapist (a friend) who worked on Saturdays while she was getting established in her practice. She eventually gave up Saturdays though. My own therapist doesn't work weekends, and I haven't heard of any who work on Sundays. I know it's not uncommon to work into the evenings on weeknights though if you were trying to find someone to see you after work. I also hear some of them see clients pretty early in the morning during the week so some can go before work.

I go to therapy at a psychoanalytic consultation center-- On the website it says "weekend hours available"-- but since I go after work during the week, I have no idea about the details.... I doubt very much that it includes Sundays... I know for a fact that my T doesn't have weekend hours... But all the T's at the center I go to are there in private practice-- so I'm sure you could find a private practice T who works on weekends... but I'm Sat. would be a lot easier than Sun.

Thanks to all of you! The question was in the concern of a friend of mine. My thoughts were the same as what most of you said, of course i wanted to have a more firm basis to that premonition before telling him for sure.

(((all))) thanks for the help!
