Hello,

I am interested in people's thoughts. I had a therapist for about 10 months a couple of years ago who is to date the best therapist I've had. I felt incredibly comfortable and safe to open up. We ended treatment because I moved away, and also I was doing much better.

About 6 months later, I decided I wanted to return to therapy, but I had to find someone new because I lived in a different state. I tried two different therapists, and neither of them felt like a good fit. My most recent one is okay, but I don't feel the same connection. I'm at a point where I'm doing really well and could stop therapy, but I would like to continue therapy to explore some deeper issues from the past, and I want a good therapist! I'm considering reaching out to this old therapist whom I really liked, and seeing if she could do therapy via phone or skype instead of staying with my current therapist.

I can't tell if I want to reach out to her because I genuinely don't feel a good fit/connection with my current therapist or if I just miss having my old therapist in my life.

Has anyone had to deal with a similar situation? Any thoughts?

I don't really have any advice. Ive never really had the option to return to a therapist except one, but that also requires moving.
You could always contact old T and see what her parameters are around that...
I think only you could know for sure if you miss your old T or you are not feeling this new T...

A good therapist is hard to find, there is no harm in asking your old T! It is important to feel comfortable and safe to open up? Good luck and let us know how it goes.

I had to stop seeing my FAVORITE T because of money problems. I couldn't afford his EXTREMELY expensive sessions anymore. I can now, but he won't contact me again after I left him a few texts and a voice mail. It destroyed me. I guess thats how it is at the end. I really don't have advice but I've been through something similar. If you do like phone/skype sessions instead of face to face, you can do that. Best of luck.
