Driving home I heard this show on NPR radio entitled Invisibilia with a one hour show on Dark Thoughts and how a couple people have struggled with them and got beyond them. I thought it might be of interest to you if you are doing Freudian, CBT, mindfulness or other alternative therapies. Even if you are not in therapy and have thoughts that bother or annoy you, this presentation could offer insights how to go beyond that.

Dark Thoughts : NPR

You can listen to the story (an hour or so) and or read it. I think it is very insightful show. If it is too much to read or listen in one night, come back to it. It is a lot to digest at once.

I liked the show and I thought it was interesting, however, I think what should be considered is the difference between the two thoughts being brought up. One is a surge of violent thoughts that seem more like an attempt for the mind to process difficult, disturbing things vs the self demeaning thoughts that bring down one's self image: conscious thoughts vs unconscious thoughts. I wasn't on board with the whole thing, but it was interesting.

Thanks! I'll read it later, but I'm sure I will learn something from it.
