The seaweed is always greener
In somebody else's lake
You dream about going up there
But that is a big mistake
Just look at the world around you
Right here on the ocean floor
Such wonderful things surround you
What more is you lookin' for?

I have had a wonderful therapy experience so far and I was letting some of these threads get to me and I had to remind myself that there are always three sides to every story and I have to remember I know what goes in my own therapeutic relationship and to not bring in other pcers current situations and feelings into my sessions/relationship w/ my T which I was starting to do. (run on sentence anyone...?)

So I stay on the couch, well try to anyway lol...

I understand this. I did have a brief thought the other day that after reading a few threads that triggered my natural insecurities. I had to pull on some checking the facts to center myself. I guess since I didn't dwell on it too long I forgot about it quickly.

I have not seen anyone get jumped on for positive experiences. I have seen people jumped on for invalidating negative experiences in an effort to point out that they have had only positive experiences.

I've had both types of experiences--many more bad than good--and I know just how damaging it can be when it's bad. I've got a great therapist now and have posted about it, but no one has ever come down on me for it. I just don't do it to counter the ones who are struggling.

In my case, I only call a therapy experience unethical if a professional has told me that it was.

Like Chauncey Gardener - "i like to watch." Storytelling is a human thing from way back. Maybe even nonhuman, cuz what is instinct but passing on storytelling of how to do stuff?

I kind of feel bad about my last post--my T is fantastic at what she does and I'm absolutely a changed person in countless good ways thanks to therapy. My tendency to pull back from her and retreat during session is a result of things that happened way before I started seeing my T. Rational me believes that I can open up to her about anything and everything, and it'll be safe to do so. Emotional me, expert bricklayer that she is, is the one throwing up all the walls. And it's emotional me who reads about others' negative therapy experiences and panics about my relationship with T. But I'm aware of this, so it's something I want to work on, both on my own and in session. It all seems to ebb and flow, both the strength of our relationship and my awareness of what puts distance between us and what brings us closer together, in a therapeutic context.

I don't think it is his shape. I generally prefer straight lines. It's his face I think... And perhaps his colour. And he looks wet. *shudder*

While reading the last 45 posts I kept having a recurring thought. We have our couch, we have our Dear T thread, we should have an ongoing positive T experience thread. With a sternly worded first post about how there are so many other places for people to complain, so we'll have none of that garbage.

Am I crazy?

Wait, yeah, I am. Couch 90 - nine tee - not nine teen.

Why not start one? I think it important to know that everyone may not consider the same thing positive

Being There came out a few years before I was born, but I absolutely love that movie. Was it a big deal when it was released? It's so great but I rarely hear people referencing it like I do other movies from that time period. Makes me wonder if it flopped despite how good it is.

Yeah I realized as soon as I posted that I should've just wiki'd it instead. Apparently it helped revitalize Sellers' career and won a bunch of awards. Guess it did well after all.

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
