Has anyone else left negative feedback for their unethical T on either the T's website or on sites such as "rate my therapist?" Just wondering, as I did. I hope I'm not alone in this.

I left very positive feedback on my T's, and although things have changed somewhat, I wouldn't change it. I think she's a great T. I think I'm the one with the issues that make the experience take a negative tone.

I've left positive feedback for my pdoc and T online (not on their own website tho). I have seen negative reviews of my psychiatrist and others also. If it's genuine feedback and not just done as revenge, I think it's helpful to other consumers.

If I was seeing a therapist who was operating unethically and/or illegally, the last place I'd turn to would be the internet ... The first place I would go to would be the board that licenses and regulates their practice.

I mean, if what I do (how I respond) is NOT going to correct the situation, then it's all a waste of my time and energy. I would also quit seeing that therapist and not refer them to anybody, and I'd provide a word of caution to anyone I knew who might be considering utilizing their services.

You bring up a good point. I didn't find any reviews on my T when I was looking to see one, I took a chance. But people have to keep in mind that any negative feedback could simply be revenge, too. There's always two sides....
Thanks for this!

I did go to the licensing board. I guess I should have entitled the thread would you leave negative feedback if your T was unethical and unprofessional?

Good Job! ... Glad You Did That!

As far as negative feedback goes, I personally wouldn't waste my time and energy on it any further ... I would, however, inform people I know, love and care about so they wouldn't fall prey to a bogus practitioner!

Hoping you are healing well and have found a new one to help you move forward in spite of having had an awful experience with this other one!

I have looked at reviews for my pdoc and T on such sites. Most are positive with an occasional negative. That sounds about right. No one person will please every single client/patient every single time. That doesn't bother me. The one really negative review my pdoc has reads like a rant by a patient, who, quite honestly, doesn't sound at all stable or rational, so it is pretty easy to disregard. The vast majority are positive and very cohesive in what they have to say. When you only have a few reviews to look at, you kind of have to take them as a balancing act; which direction do they tend to weigh? What do the preponderance of the reviews have to say?

I do leave FB on net- for Ts, docs, other professionals, restaurants, hotels... you name it
Mainly if they leave a very positive or negative imprint on me. I try to be as objective as possible- I use these sources too when doing my (re)search so I hope the info there contains some truth

Thanks for this anilam.....I do the same and leave feedback that is both positive and negative. I just left an exact quote out of her oath. At the least, I hope if someone visits my T they ask her what was meant by the comment.....One can only hope!

I've done it for the one experience I had that I was particularly displeased about. I didn't just go leave a wordless low rating or go on an angry rant; I described in detail exactly what I was displeased with. There was no clear violation of ethics in my case, but the counsellor seemed inept, bumbling, rigid, pushy, and did not seem to respect his clients (I got this impression both from the way he spoke to me and the way he spoke to and about others).

I don't regret it and I wish more people would do it. I realize not every complaint is the therapist's fault, but I would like it if people put their stories out there so potential clients can see them and decide for themselves if they'd like to work with this person or not.

I really don't think it's all that different from rating anything else: yeah, sometimes people will have unrealistic expectations or get irrationally angry, but other times there are legitimate problems and it's worth getting the word out. If it's okay to leave a poor review for a bad restaurant experience, where the worst thing that can happen is you won't have a very good meal, then it's worth doing so for a bad therapy experience, where the potential for harm is much greater than that.

I think there should be more review sites for therapists. I think reading the feedback, both positive and negative could be quite useful to a potential client.

This is backwards, but I left positive feedback for my current T and then went back later and deleted it. Nothing bad happened but I was worried my T would know it was me.

No, you are not alone in this. I did leave a negative feedback on my last T and included the fact that he was disciplined by the board. If you have any concerns about your negative review, feel free to PM me.
