I remember the first therapist I saw when I was in my early 20's smoked. She had an office with windows that opened. We would sit and smoke together during the appointment. It was back before everyone became insane about smoking.

I think you have a right to feel uncomfortable and to ask that he not do it going forward.

today i was at my pdoc, after she checked my file bending over to her monitor with her bum towards me in her miniskirt, she sits opposite of me and spreads her legs so i could see her... you know.. she wasnt wearing any undies. then she bend so much forward to pick up her teacup, I could see she was not wearing a bra. Is that appropriate behaviour? I did not feel uncomfortable, so I don't know if I should say something about it next time. If she started to smoke a big cuban cigar however I would have objections.
Or would she have issues herself? Some fixations? I have heard that some pdocs have mental problems themselves.

I don't get all the over concern and so forth over it, but of someone doesn't like it then saying something would be the thing I would say. I quit smoking tobacco for the most part, but I have no problem with others smoking.

I think sometimes people used to get stuck in a situation of second hand smoking and there was no way to get out. Second hand smoking is bad. I am a former smoker but I was happy when the rules changed. It is not the same as other bad habits as smoking effects others. Just because I like something doesn't mean I should be unconsidered and selfish about harming others

Again, no one need stay near smoke if they don't want to, in my opinion. I just don't see smoke as being as harmful as people get worked up about it being. But if it concerns someone, then I agree they should be able to get away from it.

Sometimes you can't (when people were allowed to smoke in a teachers lounge at the office in a cubicle at work at a restaurant etc), could not always get out. Second hand smoking knowingly harmful

Vapor is seldom as satisfying as smoke, but it is my only vice! I quit a 20+ year 2-pack-a-day habit with it, so it definitely fits "harm reduction" and goes great as an ice breaker/educational conversation starter. I try to leave my high horse at home. . .

*and science. Although, I give the gov't too much credit -- privately funded research (by tobacco companies) also clearly revealed the harmful effects of smoking, including secondhand smoke... in some cases before publicly funded research, IIRC.

Anyway you are correct, studies show that the various smoking bans are having dramatic effects on the incidences of smoking-related diseases. Seems to work better than telling impoverished kindergartners that they are free to leave their public school classroom anytime they want if their teacher starts smoking.
