I am sure most of you know how daunting it is finding a therapist (which I am also trying to do) let alone a good psychiatrist that is more than med management. I move to fairfax,VA in 4 days and have been having a rough time finding a psychiatrist through the normal searches. I was hoping someone new one that was good. Insurance is also an issue. I need one that takes insurance. There are plenty in the area that do not. So they are off the list.

This can be where survivors search for mother and father figures. Transference issues in counseling can occur and this is normal for childhood abuse survivors.

Are you only searching in Ffx or nearby areas as well? If so try extending the search to nearby cities - Falls Church, Vienna, McLean, Arlington are all close to where you are moving. I see a good one near Ffx, but he doesn't take insurance.

There's a new-ish online community called Beyond Blue which has a page for therapist/psychiatrist referrals. It was started by Therese Borchard, who is also involved with Psych Central. It's in the process of moving from a Facebook Group to its own site.

You can join and post a request for a referral there, or I can post one for you if you're busy with moving. Just let me know, I'd be happy to.
Thanks for this!

Hi Moxie,
I used to live across the Potomac, in Maryland. My PDoc has long since retired and IDK any others. What I do want to suggest is pretty much what Trdleblue said, except to suggest that you also try DC and MD. Also, there are beaucoup de universities in that area, so you may want to check with them. I'm 99% sure that the Metro goes to FFX, so if you're worried about driving into some areas, there's that, as well as Metro Bus.

I know that this isn't the info you're looking for, I just wanted to make sure that you have plenty of options. Moving is hard enough.

Thanks guys. I have not yet found a Pdoc but I did contact a psychologist in my area to perhaps set up therapy. I liked his philosophy of setting goals and having an end date. I just can not bear getting painfully attached to another therapist. I am hoping through him he might have pdocs he sends patients to. If I get an appointment with him. He emailed me the new patient form and he said he was interested in meeting with me to see if we could work together.
