...I love it. On being a T..... I have been doing my internship for two weeks now. I work on two units of the hospital-- affective disorders (bipolar, depression) and the adult general unit, where most of the patients have psychotic disorders. The 1st day was hard-- I was very triggered by the affective d/o unit... hits so close to home. When I am with the patients, tears come to my eyes. It still happened today, but I am getting better at drawing the line. It was actually easier for me to watch a patient bang his head against a glass wall than it was to watch the depression and the anxiety in the affective d/o unit. But anyway, I absolutely love what I am doing. I have been co-facillitating a lot of music therapy groups, and it such a beautiful thing to watch the patients with psychotic d/o's thrive on the music-- a move towards health. I am so excited to begin to plan and do my own groups-- I have a lot of ideas centered around creative expression-- music/art/poetry, etc. Anyway, I had a very good day, and I just wanted to share. On being a T.....

That's so great! I'm glad you're getting ideas and creative "interest". I love when what I'm working on gives me new thoughts and ideas and ways of looking at things.

This sounds so positive, pinksoil. That is great to love your chosen career. How interesting that you are getting better at drawing the line. Does this mean setting your boundaries as a T?

The music therapy groups sound very interesting. I would like to hear more about them sometime. My therapist used music once in my session, and it was very evocative. He played a lullaby when we were doing EMDR and whoa, took me right back to being an infant! My 13 year old daughter's counselor is an art therapist, so I am interested in this too. Sometimes they draw a picture together. Or sometimes my daughter brings in poems she has written. (But mostly they just talk.) Both my daughter's T and my T also do psychodrama and each have psychodrama groups. I think there is a lot of really creative stuff going on out there in the therapy world.
