I tried a new pdoc, and I was fired yesterday during our second session! Now I'm out hundreds and back at square one needing to find a new doctor and schedule an appointment. I was so shocked because, nothing like this has ever happened to me before, I think I'm a very reasonable nice person, I had kind of even imagined myself being the absolute easiest patient to treat ever. Even after being fired I was nice and paid and left, going into total robot mode. The only good side effect is I feel enraged now after the fact, and it is so nice to feel anger again instead of my depression.
This doc wanted me to try to treat my lifelong issues with a gluten free diet, as if eating a different hamburger bun will assuage my suicidal feelings! Then he told me the meds I've been prescribed in the past would fry my brain and basically turn me into a vegetable. Wow. I thought I had obsessive worries about taking meds before! Has anyone ever been fired like this, not prescribed medicine (which was the entire point of my visit) and still charged for their session? I feel violated. |

Oh, that must have been devastating! I'm sorry! Are you ok?
I'm not clear why he fired you. He recommended a gluten free diet..and then what happened? You refused? |

Also, I have a new found empathy for everyone here who has been fired by a "helping" professional. Even with it being a second session and no connection, it is frightening to be told basically "I cant help you" from a supposed professional. It is hard enough to drag yourself out and try to find help when you are mentally ill, but to be punished for it? **** this piece of **** asshat.

The funny thing is if he had wanted to work with me to find other options I would have been open to that... but he didn't say that, he just said our "goals don't overlap." He seemed genuinely disinterested the entire session barely looking at me. I really think he had it in his mind to fire me before I ever said a word, which makes me wonder why he even scheduled the apt! |

The heck. He is nuts. Sorry you have such experience. Nothing wrong with diets but it's not universal solution!

I do not get this "Gluten Free" phase. It needs to stop. I have food allergies, and it is down right insulting, hearing people say this is going to change your life. |

I'm sorry you were fired
![]() I had a similar experience with a T once. She told me I had to get off all my "western" medication if she was going to treat me. I told her "okay", and never called back for a follow-up appt ![]()

Ugh I'm so sorry.
I know it's easy to feel fired, but it doesn't seem like you and the Dr were a good fit. Better he tells you now than many more sessions and hundreds of $'s later. Though it is disappointing that he took the 'my way or the highway' approach ![]() His school of thought has a big market out where I live, believe it or not. |

I have been fired, it's not a fun situation.
I hope you find a Dr who is more understanding soon.

It's a shame you had to pay for the session, though. :/ |

I do know people who have been physically transformed by avoiding gluten - but really, as a psychological cure? That's crazy.

Did you google adderall and pregnancy before you asked him? It looks like its contraindicated. That may have been why he freaked. I dont know that zoloft is better than wellbutrin but maybe in his experience it is for prenatal.

I'm not pregnant and I'm not breastfeeding, so that really wasn't the issue.

I have requested a refund in the past for unsatisfactory medical service. I really don't see it as any different than a refund for a terrible meal in a restaurant- the establishment should make a replacement or remove it from the bill. I don't pay just to get anything, I pay for high quality services and products.

Plz write a review on him...to warn others...this is terrible.I know the feeling...my heart sank...when this was done to me. I was in a daze for several days..and couldn't believe someone can be so blunt and rude. U can either do it gently or cut throat. My T chose the later. Our last session was as normal as it gets.. N next session...BOOM!!! I am sorry u had to go thru this...

I was told by a professional government facility that Ritalin is OK aswell, but obviously is preferable to avoid. The "funny" thing is I quit all meds since I got pregnant because I can't handle pills right now, so all the worrying turned out to be irrelevant... |

Petrased,
Sounds like his personal preference. I've been on 100 mg of Wellbutrin for years now, along with 300 mg of Effexor. Haven't had any brain frying yet. Also, my psych took me OFF of Zoloft and put me ON Wellbutrin those years ago. |

Petra, it sounds as if he is some sort of alternative medicine fanatic. Nothing wrong with that on a personal level but he is in the wrong profession if he wants to enforce his lifestyle choices on his patients. I have never heard of a mainstream psych thinking issues can be resolved through homeopathic means.

I don't get the problem with welbutrin tho. I was first started on*zoloft. At first it was ok because it sent me straight into anhedonia, which was a relief. But I couldn't function like that. Switching to welbutrin was MUCH better. But when I was eventually put on lamictal... that was best of all. If the next one gives you grief about welbutrin, ask about lamictal. It is becoming a go-to med for depression because even tho its original purpose was as an anti-epileptic, it has become famous for how effective it is in treating depression .
