I just had T yesterday and left feeling almost worse than when I went in only because 50 minutes is just not enough time to get through everything that is going on in my life right now. The idea of asking for an extra session just wouldn’t even help right now either. I just really have several serious events going on that are causing a lot of “loss” and trauma that I need to get through and I’m so extremely overwhelmed that I am constantly on the edge of an anxiety attack and my depression is so bad right now. I guess I’m writing here right now because I just need all the extra support I can muster up to get me through the next couple of months. I am weepy and anxious nearly 24/7. I am trying my best to stay busy with distractions and going out with friends with possible, but I know I haven’t been good company lately. Weekends are the worst because I don’t even have work to keep me busy and I’m single so I don’t have a family to do things with. It’s really hard because I can’t email or text my T in between sessions so I can’t even get that little bit of extra support when I’m feeling especially bad like now.

I'm sorry you're having such a rough time, I know 50 minutes isn't much when we're struggling.
This workbook has some lovely ideas for staying grounded during stressful times and for pleasurable, meaningful distractions to help manage anxiety and other difficult emotions/states. And it has mindfulness exercises to help keep those feelings in perspective and just weather them more easily. Amazon.com: The Dialectical Behavior Therapy Skills Workbook: Practical DBT Exercises for Learning Mindfulness, Interpersonal Effectiveness, Emotion Regulation & ... Tolerance (New Harbinger Self-Help Workbook) (9781572245136): Matthew McKay, Jeffrey I've used it and found it helped with some of the experiences you're describing. Hope things ease up soon. |

I am familiar with the book and own it. I went through DBT with my daughter when she was ordered to and did find some of it helpful. Right now I feel like I just need to talk and process a lot and of course I can't be with T everyday and I don't want to be a sappy, broken record to my friends. I just feel so sad and alone with all this stress piling up

The buyers backed out of the contract on my house yesterday, after three weeks, making my stress even worse. I have everything boxed up and ready to move. I've put a deposit on my new place. I'm at a loss at what to do and to top it off...my students start today and my is totally not in the game
