I have been seeing the same therapist for several years due to an anxiety disorder. The approach is generally CBT oriented. I feel like I am hardly making any progress. When is it time to stop or take a break? I feel like a failure and I get upset every time I leave.

The next session would be a good time to discuss the progress made and the goals for the future. Hard to know if your expectations are too high or the therapist just does not work well with you.
If you get upset, this could be a sign to look for another therapist, maybe of the opposite gender of your current therapist if that is an issue.

If you're not feeling better or feeling some relief or seeing some progress after several years I think I would talk to this therapist and let them know. It might be time to find someone else.

Hi highfunctioning. I agree with the others that maybe you should talk to your T directly about your lack of progress and try to come up with a plan. If they are unsupportive, perhaps it is time for a switch.
As I mentioned in your other thread, perhaps a different type of therapy such as mindfulness, DBT or ACT might be an option. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

I agree with other that it is time to re-evaluate if your therapist is the right person for you. Also, CBT is not for everyone. You might need some kind of psychotherapy that addresses underlying issues, especially if you have a history of trauma.
