I read a book, because the 10 or so minutes I spend waiting is often the only free time I get all week.

Nothing, I usually arrive 2-3 minutes early only. Sometimes I flip through a magazine, but rarely.

Stare at the wall and try to stay present.

I am in the waiting room now, and am on my phone- so that is what I chose. If I am especially nervous, I usually just stare at the wall.

I almost always get there pretty early, partially because I never know what kind of traffic I'll run into on the way so I leave home early and partially because I find I like that bit of alone time before session (I'm with teenagers literally 24/7). My T's office has a TV tuned into an oldies station which is fun because I get to watch those oldies but goodies that I don't run into at home. Or, I read a book which is my usual MO. Or, I sleep -- they have the most comfortable leather couch in that waiting room that just invites a good nap (T's had to wake me up more than once).

I used to get there about 10 minutes early....but the past few months I've been getting there with very little time to wait. Sometimes I'm lucky enough to walk right in when I get there. But when I do have wait time, I voted play with my phone, because that's what I often do. But...sometimes I just sit there and stare at the wall, trying to focus on calming my anxiety.

It would stress me out to walk in and go right back for session. It would feel rushed. I much prefer some time to de-stress from my drive, my workday, etc. before I go back for session. I remember one session I was nearly late for because of a traffic jam. He took me right back when I walked in the door and it felt like time was wasted while I wound down from my drive. But I'm one of those people who is always early to everything.

I do not use the waiting room for either. The first one - I go in right on time or a minute after and her office door is open and I go in.
The second has a complicated door system in a converted house - so you always have to ring the therapist to come open it - I always go in right on time or a minute late there also.
I despise sitting in a waiting room for anyone and for a therapist, my anxiety would go higher than usual.

I do therapy at home, so right before session I make myself a cup of tea and often put on a shawl for extra comfort. I may turn on music. I'm so glad there's no waiting room experience.

Your therapist comes to your house? As long as I could have some privacy in this house, I would love that!

I said other because when I saw her in person in the past, I would either write, or do active imaginations. In the interim 2+ years we did phone sessions so I was just at home or in my car. Now that she's back (yay!), she doesn't have an actual waiting room, but a chair on a covered porch will be the "waiting room" or I'll just wait in my car, until she opens the office door. The parking space is right in front of the office door. I'll do the same thing now probably - write, or do an active imagination - but when I went the other day, I actually got there exactly on time so there wasn't any waiting.

For my own therapy, I play on my phone while I'm waiting. Family therapist comes to my house, so I'm usually spending time picking up, and wait on the couch until I see her pull up.

No waiting room but I am always 20 min+ early so I sit in my car and either listen to music or write poetry if I'm feeling that way inclined.

There you are! I was looking for someone else who thinks about the coming session. I usually jot down some notes, because otherwise I'll just ramble and forget to talk about what I really need to mention.
Thanks for this!
