My therapist told me that she was leaving in my last session I have one more session left and I don't know if I should continue therapy. I still struggle with anxiety on a regular basis although I function well enough to hold down a job. I told her that I didn't know if I wanted to be transferred to a new therapist because I had been in therapy for two years and I didn't know if there was any benefit in continuing therapy. We spent three sessions doing trauma stuff but I still can't talk about most of it. How do I know if I need therapy or if I'll be ok stopping therapy for now?

I'll know I'm done when I run out of things I want/need to talk about.

I don't think it's a matter of "need," it's what you want. If you are satisfied with the way your life is, at home and at work, right now, then you may not want to continue with another therapist. If something feels unfinished, like you haven't gotten something you wanted (like to be able to discuss the trauma, or to have an even lower level of anxiety), then you might choose to continue.
Even if you don't continue with someone else right now, you can always try someone new at a later date. It's all up to you. |
