I've been with my T for 6 years. Recently, he introduced the idea of termination in our sessions, in an attempt to start working on my fear of separation and deeper change, that stems from my mother never letting me be a separate person, but only an extension of herself and her chronic depression.

During our last session, he said that just like the man in the movie 'Cinema Paradiso', who adored the boy, told him to run as far as he could and never look back, to forget about him old man and go live the life that he deserved to live, that is how I should start considering his idea to work on our own termination, rather than as a rejection. That it is an act of love and deep caring.

I had watched this wonderful film when I was a child, so I watched it again tonight. I cannot describe the amount of crying that was involved. Just wanted to share with all of you trying to swim through deep dark waters.

And for those who loved the movie, a little side note: there is a 3-hour director's cut version, which is worth watching..

Not for me! I've never seen a director's cut that changed the meaning of the movie like that one.

That's a nasty bit of work to hide Elena's letters! It seemed really artificial to have Alfredo do that. In the original, Toto's lost love is just lost. Because in life...that's just the sad way it happens with first loves. No need to mettle and hide love letters, as done in the director's cut.
Thanks for this!

I will have to agree with you; I also prefer the original release by far, but I also found some worthy scenes in the extended version as well. But yes, I agree with everything you pointed out
