Oh, ha, I am no photographer at all, lol, wish I was! We got a lot of photos- some were taken by my Father-in-Law who has a fancy camera, and some by the on board naturalist who does it for a living. We had an excellent view of the orcas for about an hour, it was amazing, but I'm sure they used a zoom lens too to get those close ups.

Did you see about those kayakers who had a whale splash on them?
I think I would find sea kayaking thing quite fun. (I am not in favor of those trips where you sea kayak to mess about around dolphins or whales - but just sea kayaking to be on the water)

I didn't hear about that.

We stayed at a distance of 200 yards I think. It was nonetheless a thrill to see them and for my daughter to enjoy them too. She's been learning a lot about wildlife this summer so this really capped the season.

Everyone who moves to my state from elsewhere gets assaulted by allergies even if they never had them before.

Yay! Work is going good. My hours wont fluctuate so much as I have been trained to prep. This mean I'll work lunch rush on the line. Then, I'll go in the back and do prep. So for the most part my schedule should 11am-7pm 5 days a week. I'm so excited.

I looked at the photos of the kayak-ers afterward and they seem very happy to have been jumped upon.

When I have been whitewater kayaking and tumpted out - I was very happy when i got to shore and was not dead. I am not anti risk - I am anti messing around with the lives of wild animals. If one was out sea kayaking - hurrah. If one was actively seeking to sea kayak amongst whales or dolphins or negligently failed to be informed about the waters in which one was kayaking - boo (in my way of looking at it)

Tuesdays at work are always wall-to-wall meetings. The kinds of meetings where the collective IQ of the room drops to half of that of the lowest individual IQ present.

I hate Tuesdays.

I don't think there is anything wrong with kayaking in waters marine mammals frequent in order to observe them. Obviously pursuing them or trying to touch them is wrong, or bothering her them in areas where they congregate to rest etc is bad. When we go sea kayaking on vacation we always plan routes that take us past the shoals where dolphins like to feed etc. We don't chase them down or anything but if we come on some swimming or fishing we will stop and quietly observe for a while. It does not bother them that I can tell and we don't go within about 30 feet so they have their personal space. I think it's much less disturbing than motor boats etc. Of course the kayaking in the surf is fun whether we see wildlife or not...

In the last 24hrs I have spent about 130$ on epi-pen, Benadryl, and rescue inhaler for my son to have at school. Geesh, when you hear kids are expensive to have I always thought diapers, food, clothes.. I guess I didn't think about all of this medical crap!!

I understand others have differing views on the wildlife issue than I do.

I just made something called magic mouthwash (I get canker sores when under stress) and it contains children's benadryl.
Gah that stuff is grapey nasty, but the mouthwash itself really helped (1 part milk of magnesia and 1 part children's benadryl).

Well come to think of it where we kayak you can only really avoid dolphins by not going out at all....they seem to show up every where. They are like "passing on your left" and go racing past the kayak. By the time you see them they are already way in front....but the dolphins in that area of the Gulf Coast seem to only travel in groups of 4 or less, so maybe they are just very scattered .
