Hello. So the doctor sent a referral for me to a hospital psychiatrist because my psychiatrist thought it would benefit me to see someone there. It was sent in April/May to the hospital.

Finally after my dad going to the hospital to see where the referral was, things started to progress. The pdoc wanted to have a phone interview with my dad. I guess that's normal, not sure. Anyways, it might have been a social worker or my actual pdoc, not entirely sure, but it doesn't matter to what happened. My dad answered whatever he could and they said "ya, we'll set up an appointment for her in November" and were good with it. But then they realized I was talking to a lawyer about divorce things and then they said they might not accept me because I am part of court things. This would suck badly because I have been waiting for 6 months for this referral, and they might not accept me because of my parents' problems? I don't understand why I can't get therapy because of the court thing going on. It's not like I am in trouble or anything. I just need to decide whom I live with and stuff like that.

I am so angry at this . I really want this new place soon, and... Gah! Whatever. I have to wait and see what happens. I really want help for my social anxiety, anxiety, and OCD, and other things, but I can't because of something I have to do by law. So mad !

I'm sorry this is being made so complicated for you. I've never heard of divorce proceedings preventing a child from getting medical care (I take it you're a minor), but I guess anyone can raise any kind of issue if there's a lot of nastiness with the divorce. I hope the hospital is able to see through it all to get your needs met.

a minor in therapy or seeing a psychiatrist can affect a court case where part of the proceedings revolves around the minors issues...example one parent wants the child in therapy and seeing a psychiatrist and the other doesnt, one wants the minor on meds and the other doesmt. which parent is more capable of caring for a minor in treatment for a medical or mental issue... not to mention in court cases here in america the minors are given a lawyer called a guardian ad litem. this is the person who looks out for the minors best interests as long as the court case is active, in some cases, its no longer the parents decision of whether the minor can have mental and physical health treatment, the parents must get permission from the court and the guardian ad litem for things like non emergency mental and physical health care, until the court case is finished.

my suggestion is if you would like to continue to seek mental health treatment contact your lawyer, they will be able to either get the process started or petition the court on your behalf, thats what they are there for....to look out for you and whats best for you through this process.
Thanks for this!

Apparently the nurse/social worker whomever they were, said they have to ask the pdoc if it's okay. Not sure why, but. I just have to wait. Maybe I have to wait until after the court thing is over, but that might not be until sometime next year.... sigh. Thanks for the response Might not be able to get therapy because of court issues .

Hello. Sorry I didn't response to this at all.

I did ask my school's social worker about it and she said that sometimes the court makes hospitals give up things that are confidential, especially if the parents are lifting the rug off of everything (if that makes sense). The hospital apparently, and with good reason, doesn't want that to happen to them so they are unsure if they want to accept me until the case is over, which will take months more.

I am seeing a pdoc, but I was getting a referral to a new place. Thanks for the idea. I may do that, thanks .
