I don't want to harsh the mellow of the Couch, but, those of you who have had an ill pet put to sleep, how did you know it was time (barring obvious bad injuries, stuff like that)?

I need some positive vibes from the couch as tomorrow I have to take my youngest to a friends place and the parents know I have Bipolar but insist on talking to me like I am deaf and 4 years old. These people aren't the sharpest tools in the shed either.

If the animal doesn't move and won't eat, it's time.

For me, if I think they are in any pain or discomfort or a great deal of their life is spent having unpleasant things done to them (defined by them as unpleasant) - it is clear to me. Otherwise I look to see if I think they are just now different but still have some quality of life - if yes I don't think it is time= if mostly no or all no -then for me it is time.

I want to cry but I can't. But how do I mourn if I can't feel?

When my 16 year old cat slept next to his food bowl , and we had to inject him subcutaneously with saline solution i realized it was time. It was heartbreaking for me but i just couldn't force him to endure his life anymore just for me. Hugs i know it is so hard.

On the plus side, she snuggles and demands petting as usual. Not lively, but normal for her. On the negative side, not eating much, not drinking much, and occasionally lying on her cushion just uttering random yowls, possibly of pain, not sure. So, not sure.

Sorry if the question upset anyone. The only pet I had to put to sleep before was obviously too ill to go on.

I am someone who probably errs on the side of putting them out of pain or discomfort. I have usually regretted waiting. I think being humanely put down (I love the euphemisms) is better than risking them being in pain.
I have had cats with kitty dementia who randomly screamed out - but the vets constantly assured me it did not mean pain - so that we just dealt with until there were other signs such as a day or so without eating or drinking.
It is a hard decision either way - but I am so afraid of them suffering without me knowing it and I don't think death is the worst thing possible.
Good luck with your decision.

I'm realizing the coral floor is making the grey walls look lavender (aka after I finished painting walls/floor/ceiling/trim!) and the mint accent color is too pastel for the coral, so I've come up with plan B. I got the teal paint intended for the laundry room and did a run of stencils with it.

Now I'm going to cover the mint with teal, and hope that covers enough coral so the lavender goes away.

Here's some embarrassing pictures of my Easter-egg-in-progress.

Here's mint trim and stencil:

And here's mint trim and teal stencil (bonus cat in windowsill her name is Garbage):
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1447908939.746927.jpg

And when finished the trim will be teal as well.
Thanks for this!

I never would have thought about painting floors. Does paint wear well?

According to my exhaustive research (I'm a Pinterest fiend) porch and floor paint has polymers in it that make the finish so durable it doesn't require polyurethane coating.

The carpet was so bad that anything would be an improvement, and the painted subfloor can be covered with more traditional floor covering if I totally put my foot in it. The Couch 102, Buckle My Shoe!

Prednisone is terrible. Bloated to twice my size, constantly having side effects up/down/up/down. Can I just skip the next few weeks until I'm done?

Thanks, CE. That's what I'm trying to focus on, is the fact that there will be other moments, and it will be better because I'll be in a stronger place to hear them.

I hate prednisone! I also feel bad when I have to give it to my pup because I know what it's like to be on it
