Hi, new here. just wondering, any suggestions- my psych. dropped me out of the blue a month ago, in the same sentence saying " you have not progressed, after 13 visits, & there is nothing more i can do for you. You have all the tools you need & you know what to do." ! ?? well, I am not ok! not even close. we were getting along fine. I was shocked. (totally messed up after & dont even remember driving home! lol she did say i can try to see someone else. but on my ins. all the Psych. work out of same office. I need to see someone. the whole thing was alot more than what i wrote . i am confused. seeing her for Aniety, panic disorder, depression, phobias.

No Meds Just therapy. she said I wasnt a good candidate for meds. which is fine by me . I didnt want to take meds anyway. Then I went to my reg. dr. Afollow up from a prev. check -up. & told him what happend & He just prescribed me Escitalopram & Trazodone. With out even knowing about what my Psych. said about no meds. I told him I didnt want to take anything - but I filled the scripts & have not taken them. Talk therapy was helping me (somewhat)

It is my understanding that the main purpose of seeing a psychiatrist is for meds. Seeing a psychotherapist, psychologist, or counselor is where you receive the long-term, regular therapy. Have you only seen a psychiatrist?

I was thinking the same thing. If you aren't going to take any meds, then seeing a therapist of some kind might be a better option. Are there any psychologists or counselors at that practice?

Also, 13 visits isn't a particularly long time for therapy.

Do you know what might have triggered this? I feel for you. Can you tell her you need more help or at least a few sessions to wind down? |

I'm sorry you had to experience this. Your doctor probably won't treat you because you are not going to take medication. Even psychiatrists who do therapy are still primarily prescribers, not therapists, and agencies as well as insurance companies have rules about who clients can see and for what purpose. Also, insurance often won't reimburse psychiatrists for psychotherapy alone if the client is not being seen for meds as well. Not defending her actions, but I believe this is what's behind them. Why your psychiatrist didn't tell you this in more depth was not very professional.

I agree with what others have said - seeing a therapist for longer term talk therapy may be more effective than your psychiatrist was. Hopefully your insurance will cover a therapist and you find one that you like and who can help you.

You might want to ask your ins co if they will cover an out of network provider (they sometimes have an exception clause if there are no other providers available at their contracted provider network or within a reasonable distance) or if someone else in the same office can work with you.

I'm so sorry that happened to you. I'd be lost.
Find a new psychiatrist. There is someone out there that can provide better care. I take several meds and they help me. And my psychiatrist and I discuss med options and he forces nothing on me. It's good to have that trust. You deserve that. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
