I'm not exactly sure what transference is, but I have a general idea. Is it possible to have transference with one t about feelings of an old t?

I have been seeing a therapist intermittently to whom I was referred by my old t. As the therapeutic relationship has been sporadic and costly with little progress made, I am beginning to question my reason for being there. I really like this t but I worry that it is for no other reason than that she was recommended to me by my old t and I miss my old t. Every time I see this new t, I am reminded of my old t and that makes me feel like there is still a piece of her with me even though we have terminated.

in my opinion transference can be about anyone/anything. also, it's not confined to just a therapy relationship. i believe it can happen with anyone in our life. as far as your question specifically, i have had feelings of mistrust and fear with my current T because of what happened with my former T.

This article gave me the clearest definition of transference:

It is totally possible that it is transference. It can happen with anyone and it usually sneaks up on you.

have you had a conversation (or more than one) about this stuff with current T? It may just be that you guys are not a good fit, and if T knows you are feeling the same way, you can part ways. It may also be just that it's somethign to work on in the relationship.

as stated above, transference can happen with anyone at anytime. It's just that the psych profession had labled it.

I think we're supposed to carry bits of people who were in our life, with us. I don't see the problem.

That was a very interesting post. Thank you! I was just pondering over the difference between the two the other day.
