That's an interesting question! Maybe he thinks of "full of themselves" and "rude" as meaning dogs run around knocking things over, jumping on you, barking at everything and every one...not giving you space.

'Course, we've also had a skewed experience with cat ownership. We have a Ragdoll, which is exactly as it sounds. Sweet, calm, will hang over your shoulder, lay in your arms like a baby, just very, very docile.

Well. Rain. Now snow. I'm going to fall on my behind tomorrow when I walk outside... I just know it...

I grew up with a 'mutt' that was 1/2 rat terrier and 1/2 Basenji. Smartest and most 'polite' dog ever. She hardly ever barked, like her Basenji half. She had an astute instinct for where she was 'allowed' and where she wasn't. When my sister was a baby, Tipper would lay right next to the blanket but never touch it. And she knew the difference between her toys and the baby's toys, and never touched the baby's toys. She was just amazing.

I adore my own dogs, but I am more of a cat person in general. And the breeds of dog I choose are quite catlike

All I had growing up and all were dogs. I'd heard such awful things about cats - how aloof they are etc. So I was never interested in cats.

My daughter *had* to have a cat though, and one kind of got foisted on me from a cat shelter person I worked with, with promises that I could return it if it didn't work out. By the next day, we were worshiping this amazing cat. Wise and loving, docile, just the best cat ever. So my daughter converted me, and I was truly enchanted by the things cats offer that dogs don't. So after that cat died, we got Fat Daddy, our Seal Lynx Ragdoll.

I got my first cat because my apartment complex did not allow dogs and I HAD to have a pet or I was going to go insane. Raised my kitten as if she were a dog. Taught her to come when called, sit on command, fetch, etc. She was harder to train than a dog, but not that hard. She loved yum-yum treats and would do almost anything to get one. She loved fetch. She was a Snowshoe mix and absolutely brilliant.

For instance, my son used to push his younger brother, etc., and what I finally learned to do was to get him to stop/freeze and then ask him to define for me why I was asking him to stop. He couldn't just tune me out that way; he actually had to think and verbalize the problem and figure out how to fix it. He made a lot more progress once I figured that out, probably because I was placing the responsibility for assessing his own behavior on him instead of me trying to do it for him. By 8th grade things were getting better; just took great patience.
Thanks lolagrace that sounds like a great idea. I have issues with personal space so this sounds like i stop it well before it starts

I saw a documentary once where they cllaimed that cats would actively engage humans in a conversation ie the cat would start the conversation. I totally believe this as my cat used to talk non-stop when we got home and if you asked her what she saw out the window she tell you in a chattery voice.

Well, my crazy cat lady status was foisted upon me by the children. I complained vociferously but was overruled. We went from 4 dogs 1 cat 2 turtles, to 5 cats and the rest of the menagerie. Those 4 bred, and you know "oh they're just so cute, can't we keep them?" in their best cajoling manner; so at one point we probably had at least 10 indoor cats. Yeah, I was cured! I'll be the crazy cat lady with 2 cats instead.

Nothing wrong with sleep my friend so long as you rise refreshed... or you have familial obligations.

T was good today we reviewed what was working and not working and I actually brought up the fact that the layout of his room didn't make me feel safe, he said he would look into it and I suggested some sort of fidget stuff which he will also look into. We reviewed the childhood photos and concluded this was more good than bad and we will keep slogging it out. I feel it has been productive even though we didn't really do any "work"
