So I need help. I need to find a therapist but it's not that simple for me. I have major trust issues. Every bone in my body right now is screaming Don't do it. You know you can't trust Drs. Every therapist I have been to I have not liked for one reason or another. I had one that made me worse. I went from just having a severe tremor in my right hand to having it in my leg as well. I started cutting while I was seeing her & her general attitude towards the whole thing was it's ok.
For me just going through a list to find someone isn't that simple. When I start looking my depression gets much worse. So I can only handle researching a T for a short period of time before I give up. I told myself after my last T didn't listen to anything I said that I was done & I really hate lying to myself. I always end up regretting it. |

I know what you mean about the trust issues. It is not easy. You can start by seeing who the available therapists are that accept your insurance.
Here is a link to locate names of therapists. Find a Therapist From there you can call office and see if they sound nice and accept your insurance. You should ask them if they are accepting new patients and what the wait time is for an appointment. For me there are 3 within 10 miles so decide how far you want to travel. 25 miles is the default - click on it to change distances. Find a Therapist Another way is online therapist. Another way is google therapist and your city and location. Those are some ways to find therapists. I suggest checking out if the therapist has helped people with self harm before and what their attitude is about self harm. Another way is to call your hospital and ask to speak to the Psych Department. They usually have social workers that serve as therapists. If you need meds you could request an appointment with a psychiatrist. Make sure they accept your insurance. It is not easy but it is better than trying to plod along all alone.

Hugs. I used Psychology Today and narrowed my search by my insurance and issues that were important to me. I ended up interview two Ts and I went with the 2nd T I interviewed. That might be an option. Now, I see you are from TN. I don't know where in TN. I use to live in Murfreesboro, TN and I had a pretty good T when I lived there.

I sympathize with you. I went to see my shrink Jan. 5 and the dr. office gave my apt to someone else. So the shrink came out in the hallway and motioned to both of us to come halfway up the hallway off the waiting room. She asked if we were willing to share one hour, i said No. she asked if i was willing to go first i said No. she asked if i were willing to reschedule and i said No. So i walked out. I did call later and totally got frustrated and screamed at the dr. office and complained to patients advocacy. So now i regret it and i have no more shrink. I don't like or trust them either. I cancelled my pcp also and am going to a totally different doctor and feel right about it. But i am not looking for a shrink or therapist. This was my first time with them and it did not work out. That is all i can tell you.
I think the information that CANDC gave you is very helpful and the right way to go for now. And i do wish you the best in finding a new one. Your issues need the counseling and attention of a professional and it is best if you find one. blessings and tc |
