Anyone done DBT? I just joined one this past monday, and I am told I need to attend it for 2 hours every monday for a year. The group has 10 members including myself; all women, it's not to say that I wouldn't be ok with a group with women, it's just the one that I was put in and had an opening. I have to give it some time I think. I am the youngest in the group- 23. Not sure who or how old the closest one to me would be. I'm trying to be optimistic about it though and stuff. I was referred by quite a few professionals including like 4 or so psychiatrists.

Hi evildouble,
I attended and completed this program 2 years ago. It was highly recommended due to severe distress resulting from my BPD. The workbook with this course is excellent. There are 4 or 5 different chapters, and the author is Marsha Linehan. This isn't a typical "group" approach, at least not here on the East coast anyway. It was more of a classroom set-up and the therapist was an instructor. Not a lot of discussion amongst the attendees, but it may very well be different everywhere else. Good luck with this. I found the DBT information very informative, and still use the tools today!

I've not participated but there is a lot of research that this is particularly helpful for borderline personality disorder, but the concepts seem applicable to anyone dealing with distress. If you do a google search on it, there are a lot of free materials on the Internet with the DBT exercies, homework, etc. that might give you a preview of what to expect. Good luck to you!
