I like my T to talk in response to me and give me insights and feedback. I could not see someone who didn't talk. I don't go to therapy just for someone to listen. I go for insights and feedback and sometimes advice. I also like it when my T will tell me about herself in regards to what I am saying or say something to make chit chat. The T I just ended with had the most wonderful voice. I could sit and listen to her talk for hours and never be bored. Her voice soothed me. One of my favorite feelings is when we would laugh together about something.

I like it when T and I work through something together. I can't do the whole conversation alone--I'm learning from talking with him, not at him.

I want my T to talk and to be very engaged and interested in me. I also like her telling a bit about herself and that she understands me.

I am not good at talking at length, so I need my T to ask me questions and respond to what I say so I can keep going and stay on track. So I like when she talks. But, since it is my therapy, I prefer that she talk about things that relate to me and my progress. I wouldn't like it if she talked a lot about her life, her opinions, etc. (although I am curious about those things and would love to get to know her, I recognize that it wouldn't help me at all).
