The hope of finding a pdoc as be an on going problem. I wonder if its me? Seems like everyone I see goes down the same path, "so what brings you here today". After seeing them for a month or two, they're sure they've got the right dx. Then the meds are thrown at me.. It never works. As far as pdocs compared to T's, my insurane will only pay for a MD. Most of the md's I have found will not take HealthSpan and want to be paid in cash.. I can't afford it.
So as the world turns, any help would be great.... T/C me |

hi Tucker! it's definitely NOT you!!! i had a less than great experience myself just yesterday (man so much has happened since then...i can't believe it was just yesterday!!)
anyway....here's part of that post.... ...the office had a very short history form to fill out. (1) What brings you here? work stress and self injury (2) Treatment history? lots off and on for years - hospitalized three times - last hospitalized last week (3) Medications? Zoloft & Welbutrin he ended up asking me the typical checklist of questions...sleeping, eating, etc. and never even asked about my hospitalization, my work stress or my self injury!! i know he's not a therapist and that he's there to provide medicinal relief - but geez.... personally, i think pdocs are a very strange lot!!! i've seen probably a dozen over the past however many years....they were all strange....not that they were bad docs....just strange - didn't really listen well.... so hang in there with your search!!! and know that it is definitely not you!! it's them!!! ![]()

Hang in there Tucker...I made one switch...to someone who I developed a relationship through Therapy for my children...
Made a lot of difference. Unfortunately I'm not sure about the insurance part...I know a friend who goes to a "retired" T who takes what you can pay...not sure how many are out there like that? My biggest advice is to keep a running history of events on your computer...so you can add to it and simply print out the history if you see someone new...I think this helped me with my new T and pdoc...

It is important to give one practitioner the chance to modify/adjust his prescription based on your reaction. If you switch pdocs after only a month or two with someone, you will be back to square one with the new person and have to start all over. If the pdoc seems generally acceptable to you, try sticking with him/her for several rounds of prescriptions and adjustments. Many psychotropic meds take a month or two to reach their full effects, so this takes time. I'm not sure of your needs, but going the "No meds" route is also an alternative, instead focusing on psychotherapy. Some therapists have a certain number of hardship case clients they charge a reduced rate. Good luck.
