What's this new show about? The only thing I'm watching these days is "Big Love" (HBO show) so I should take on a new TV show.....

Here you go! It is a therapy practice and tonights show had several sessions going on. Some were serious and some had some humor in them.

Thanks for the heads up. It's not on for another hour here on the west coast. I'm going to give it a try.
Here is the episode description for tonight:

Quote: Drama following the lives of the staff at a psychiatrist's office. In the opener, Dr. Ann Bellowes hires a new lawyer for the practice to replace her husband and former business partner, whom she caught cheating on her with their former couples therapist.

I'm recording it on DVR. I saw in the previews, Ann (the doc, played by Lily Taylor, who starred in THE HAUNTING) told a patient to "go shopping." That's the kind of therapist I need! LOL!

I watched it, so did my therapist! We've been talking about it in session before it aired Sunday. I liked it. I'll find out what she thought later today.

I watched it! I cracked up at the first therapy scene with that blonde woman who nervously ripped a strip of upholstery off of the pdoc's couch. I was reminded of that article someone posted here a little while ago on how analysts' couches no longer have buttons on them because the clients pull them off.
![]() I was surprised that these psychiatrists were all offering psychotherapy. I think of pdocs as doing mostly meds. The marriage breakup of the lead pdoc reminded me of my own marriage disaster, but hers seemed to play out in about 2 days, whereas mine has covered similar territory in 2 years. ![]() I am looking forward to seeing the show again next week. I noticed there are banner ads for the show here on PC. Guess they know we would all be interested in watching this. ![]()

Just wait until they get to transference...eek! It is a good show I think.

I watched it earlier. I liked it, too. I like Lili Taylor, but the guy who plays James could talk about laundry the whole hour, and I'd listen, just to hear his accent!

I liked it except when the one psychiatrist said, "my six o'clock canceled - Thank God." Ouch...
I'm wondering how painful it will be to watch the casual, though likely realistic, discussions about clients, their demands and what the therapists really wish they were doing. |

I loved it...... it was both funny and yet so true all at the same time.
It comes on the LifeTime channel on Sundays @ 9 Pm EST. .... if you miss the Sunday show you have many other chances to watch it through out the week on LifeTime. |

I know it's not pleasant thinking of a psychiatrist talking about his or her patients negatively, but I'd bet quite a few of them do. Most people who deal with others in their line of work have complaints, and psychs get bored, frustrated, and angry, too.

Hey Almeda,
Thanks for the link. I just watched the show & I loved it...think it's going to be a good one. Hmmmm. Two of the T's in this episode lectured their clients. What do you think of that?

I watched it too, especially made note to do so (I don't have many shows I watch consistently). I like her. I think it's a bit over the top but I guess a TV show has to have some of that. I don't know how "interested" I'll stay in it though, I have to be in the mood.

Just remember, when you see her do things some might consider "inappropriate" for a psychiatrist (or psychologist--whatever she is), in general, it's just done to keep the story interesting. Lecturing patients as she did may or may not be appropriate (although it may be the right thing to do with some people), but it's fun to watch!

I can't wait to see it tonight!!!
Off-topic: I was thinking about therapists talking to their patients. One of my best friends in real life is a therapist, and she does talk about her patients (though never in a way that would allow me to identify any of them). It's actually rare for her to say anything negative about them though some of them amuse her. She'll say something like "yeah I told this guy that this whole situation is gonna blow up in his face" and he's like "yeah I know..." She gets an occasional client sent to her from the courts who doesn't want to be there and makes it known. I don't think she likes those too much, but she clearly cares about and likes the vast majority of her patients. She said it was her life's calling to be a therapist. I think about that when I wonder what my own therapist thinks of me. But yeah I know everyone gets frustrated, even with people they like a lot. Okay that's just me thinkin' out loud. Sorry it's off-topic. I'll definitely tune in for the show tonight! Sidony |
