I'm so sorry you're having such a hard time. You are right in your feelings, though. I only saw one whom I later learned saw her practice as a ministry of sorts and it explained so much about the undercurrents and disconnect. They don't see that they are bringing their beliefs and judgements into therapy, but they are. Very much so. The same reason why some people say they want a therapist who shares their Christian values, you have a right to say you want someone who respects yours.
Thanks for this!

I'm sorry you're having such a hard time finding a "secular" therapist. And like others said, I don't think you're bigoted because you're avoiding therapists who advertise as Christian. Honestly I don't want religion anywhere near me so any therapist who'd use the terms "religion" or spirituality" on their website would have me running away. It's a good thing I live in a very secular country where Christian therapists are the exception.

I can understand your concerns. I was raised in the Catholic Church and I have a lot of respect for it but I do not agree with all of its teachings/ beliefs. Being a gay female I didn't feel comfortable with a therapist that advertised ( or otherwise) as a Christian counselor.. Even if they didn't push their beliefs on me.. Just my own feelings. Best wishes with your search!!

That could be a bigger problem, but all of my therapists have been Christians but none of them brought religion into my sessions unless I brought it up first.
Ditto what lolagrace said. I'm in TX and didn't have any trouble finding a non Christian counselor. Or at least one that doesn't bring religion in to the therapy room in any way. My therapist and I are different faiths, but it just never comes up. It's not an important part of my therapy.

Male therapists seem to be rare around here. I have reasons not to see a female t mostly because my primary abuser as a child was female. Hope that helps people understand why my search may seem harder than theirs. But I will take a second look at the listings just to be sure

Hugs growly. I'm sorry you're having such a hard time finding a new t. I think the suggestion about lgbt friendly t's is a good one. That was one of the things in my t's profile that caught my attention. That, and the dream work thing.
