My therapist is into bioenergetics ( body work). She believes that our bodies hold onto stress caused by every day challenges and the deeply rooted issues caused by traumatic events in our lives. Recently she wanted me to try TRE or traumatic Release Exercises . The way it works is you engage in a series of exercises that will eventually cause tremors or shaking. These tremors are supposed to help the body rid itself of the stress that we hold.
When I engaged in TRE ( with my therapist) I only had mild tremors during some of the exercises. The way this is supposed to work is after you complete the series of Exercises you lay there and your body tremors. Many people report that they feel good, relaxed during the tremors.
I didn't experience these tremors, again.. just minimal shaking during the exercises. Lord knows I have suffered enough traumatic events as a child and teen... so I'm wondering if any of you have experienced TRE, did it help? I told my therapist that I felt inadequate that it didn't work for me. I will add that this was the first time I tried it so maybe it will take more than once to see results..

I did a workshop with a trauma guy before and he had us all lie on the floor with our legs in the air. My legs shook a lot but I felt no release or no different than before. It didn't work for me either 1step. They two women I went with said it was amazing and it really released energy.

Never done it. But releasing trauma? Then what? It's all better? Forgotten? Like it's never happened?

Yes , I do it and find it good , but I've heard many people say it gets better the more you do it. I tried it by myself and got quite strong tremors then had one session with a T where they were barely perceptible. Sometimes in the videos it looks like something from the Exorcist the way people flail about , but people are unique and in videos of group sessions you see lots of variation. I had a therapist completely blow my trauma and ended up in ER , the TRE thertherapist explained the trauma held in the body and it's responses.

It's based on the theory that like animals we keep trauma in the body. Have you ever seen a dog or cat after being run over or hit by a car? Well they shake uncontrollably and release the trauma then they get up and they are fine again. I think it's different for us humans though. It's not that easy but it makes sense that the initial trauma is released the shock and perhaps this is where the two therapies are good together to release the body trauma and talk therapy for the memories and feelings! Peter Levine book waking the tiger is pretty good at explaining the science behind it all.

I don't think it is supposed to cure trauma, it's supposed to help the body Release the stress that it holds due to the trauma. Some people report that it really helps them.
