I know we had a thread like this in the past, but there are a lot of new people, so I wanted to ask again. Also, I asked my T today and she said "around 35 a week." She asked if that answer upset me, and I said "no." She added that it's too many and she wants to cut down. I didn't think of asking how she's going to do that! Probably stop accepting new clients, I assume. The reason I asked is because when I needed to change days this week, one of the days she was all booked up. So I was thinking, 10 a day is 50 per week and I didn't like the idea of that many clients. I'm glad she's seeing only 35. They aren't all long term like me, anyway. So, has anyone asked, and do you care?

I don't care. I have no idea except that both are partially retired. I think the first only works 2 days a week and the second one 2 or 3 days. The first has been out for about 5 weeks now(I can't remember) for some medical thing. For all I know she may not come back.
The more other clients she has, the less pressure on me is how I see it.

Technically, mine has spots for 40 clients a week (8 sessions a day), but he rarely ran a full schedule every day. I'd guess he, on average, has around 30-35 sessions a week which seems pretty reasonable for full-time work. I would guess a few of those are the same client more than once.

Between 1 and 8. Right now she has 4-5 regulars. She will see up to 4 clients a day, and works 2 days per week max. I used to like it when she had more clients. I figured it would encourage her not to retire. Now, it doesn't matter to me whether she retires or not so the client load doesn't matter so much.

On the other hand 35 clients at $125(just a guess using what is usual around here) an hour per week is not a bad way to make a living.

Oh wow, that's a lot of clients. I can't even imagine that. My t is a supervisor and I know she has four supervisee's at centre where I work, God know how many else and she works at three centres and sees clients privately so I imagine she has a lot but no where near 35. I would worry she wouldn't have time for me. Do you worry about that rainbow?
Thanks for this!

He used to see forty but it was too little. Then Kashi started seeing sixty clients and that was too much. He is now at fifty patients but that may include his dbt group people

I don't know, but if I were to ask she would probably give a high number as a way to remind me she's busy and not to bug her.

I once gave my T a letter with many many questions on it. One of the questions was how many clients she has. However, she skipped over most of the questions, including this one, so I have no idea.

I don't know about my own T, but I work at a counseling center. On the low end, the Ts I work with (professionally) see around 10, on the high end maybe 25-30 max. One who is no longer at our office was seeing like 40 a week, but our director felt it wasn't ethical or effective to see that many.

My t is pretty booked too but only works 2 days a week. So probably not nearly as many, which I think is good in her case because I sometimes wonder if she is getting her clients mixed up already.

I don't think any of mine worked more than 8 hours a day, No. 1 3 days/week, No. 2 4, No. 3 4 1/2. And 1 and 3 had irregular times for appointments, on the hour or the half hour, so they probably didn't see 8 a day. 2 sees people on the hour. So I'd guess 20 regulars for 1, and probably about 30 for 2 and 3.

Given the prices around here, they would make between $4000-5000 a week before taxes and overhead.

A while back I had a T who was seeing 70 clients a week because it was at a clinic that wasn't getting a lot of funding so a lot of the therapists quit. She wanted to move on also but she was up in age and had a harder time finding a job She eventually did find a different job at another clinic.

I'm not sure how many clients my T is seeing but one thing I really like about him is he is solo and you get your same spot every week. You don't have to fight for it , having a receptionist schedule whoever takes it first.. I've been at places like that and not being able to get in..REALLY appreciate my T's system.!!

I had the same scheduled time for the 7 years I was with my last therapist. First it was on Tuesday at 2 pm. Then I changed it to attend something else and it became 11 am on Tuesday. This was in a community mental health clinic. It worked out great.

In a way, my therapist sees all clients through me. Because we are fractal beings. Your eyes are my eyes. My eyes are your eyes. In a way, my therapist is also my client.

Practically, he sees four clients a day, three days per week. The other two days he devotes to his other callings, primal scream yoga and intensive meditation sessions. On his weekends, he is active at the community markets, where he sells produce from his garden. I have canned a few of his yams.

No, I don't know. Potentially up to about 20 I think, but he is also a psychiatrist so some (maybe most) of the people he sees during a week are not regular therapy clients. And since I take up two session times a week, that's one less person, and obviously that might apply to his other therapy clients as well.

My T has about 40 clients total in her entire caseload. I know at certain hospitals my friends go to, Ts who have 150 clients is normal. We've a huge MH clinician shortage.

I'm only guessing: T works two days a week, probably 8 hrs a day... so 16 clients?

My ex T usually works two days and sometimes she worked three. She would see about 9-12 a day and some are family sessions. She was seeing perhaps a minimum of 18-24. She seemed overwhelmed or preoccupied when I would see her. I'm not sure how well that number of clients fit into her lifestyle.

What a coïncidence! I asked my T that very question this morning. She refused to answer, claming it's not therapeutic for me to know. That pissed me off. It's ridiculous that she doesn't want to answer that very basic question. Anyway she works 4 days a week and I'm guessing she sees maybe 5 clients per day so in total 20 clients? I hope it's not more than that because I already feel like I'm just one client among many.

In all fairness, there's way more work to being a T than just client hours. Ex: insurance paperwork, government paperwork, group programs, court appearances, research time, trainee supervision and associated paperwork, peer consultations, billing, continuing education, returning messages, etc. I don't imagine my T sees more than 15 a week. She's also involved in community outreach for addiction prevention.
