I had a dream about T the other night, I won't go into details as I don't want to bore you!! (It was nothing extremely exciting!)
Then I was searching through the 'people you may know' section on Facebook and she was one of them. (We have no friends in common.) I searched T on Facebook a few months ago as I was curious if for 1, she had an account, and 2, I wanted to feel a connection, but haven't done it since. Part of me wants to know why she has popped up (she's popped up there a few times) and the other part hopes it's because she has had a look at my profile! When I saw her there my heart sank because I miss her. Most of you here know my story and know how much I'm struggling with the break. I feel like the universe is playing a cruel trick on me because I'm struggling with missing her and she's been on my mind a lot this past week. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

That must have been a surprise! I would guess that she doesn't look at client profiles in her feed as a professional courtesy.

It only popped up because you searched her before.

Not necessarily. Facebook's algorithms are unfathomable, and I get a lot of suggestions for people I've never heard of, where we have no friends in common. According to some sources they can base it on things like liking the same kind of posts... but nobody knows since it's all super secret.

That's what I thought, but now I'm wondering if I pop up on her 'people you may know' because I searched her? ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I have all kinds of people I have never heard of show up on my list. And I never search for someone on FB unless they send a friend request and I have no clue who they are. And while I am a totally fascinating person, I do not think that all of the people that show up as "might know" are looking around my FB page. |

T popped up on my facebook page but I think it is because the email address I use to contact her is the same email address that she uses for her facebook. Her son also pops up on mine. I told her this. It is because her son and my step-niece went to school together and are friends.

My experience of Facebook is limited so I'm not sure what I have to offer will be useful. However, people I've searched come up, people in my phone contacts sometimes come up even though my number isn't on my Facebook, (My landlord - no friends in common) but then again there are also complete strangers suggested with no friends in common.
![]() I haven't read all your threads so I don't know your story, but I can relate to feeling like the universe is playing a cruel joke on me. I feel like I'm irony personified some times. How are you now? I know I'm late on this thread. ![]() And thank you for your reply on my thread ![]() |

I had my old t pop up too. I think anyone you have e-mailed has the possibility of showing up.

Probably either because you've searched before or because he's on your email or because you've gone to his website. Who knows? FB has a mind of its own. You may have like the same business or visit the same location. Again, there too many possible reasons to know why.

More than email, too - back when I was on FB my Pilates instructor would pop up, although we never emailed. Couple texts was it - so either it tracks texting or it knew I mentioned Pilates in a status once and it randomly chose her based on my location.

my t popped up on my linkedin page, as someone i might want to connect with, i assume because she's listed on there with the same email address i use for her. i have never searched for her on there. the interwebs is a tricky place eh?

I also think this is an algorithm thing. They are getting so sophisticated but I suspect your search put her into your people you may know list. Two of my past t's came up on LinkedIn for me and I only use LinkedIn for professional purposes. But I may have searched my t's at one point

A profile comes up as a possible friend suggestion up for various reasons, but mainly if you have searched, emailed, called or texted them. Emails and sometimes cell phone numbers are linked to Facebook accounts, so if you have contacted someone this way they'll eventually show up.

Fb pulls from location info, contacts, likes, etc. I've had people show up on my "people you may know" simply from being in the same store at the same time....
It was very disturbing the day both my t and my gyn popped up on my page as people I may know. I really don't want to be fb friends with either, thanks! O_o |

I had same thing happen recently with an old T. I have no mutual friends, have never searched for her and I have never communicated by email. I dont even have her number in my phone as I changed phones since I last saw her.
So does anyone want to do an experiment and find out if people who view your profile appear in people you may know? |

That therapist that I had visited for a few times popped up in my people you may know. I was baffled and surprised!
