Recently I changed my therapist and told her that I experience bullying at my college and emotional abuse from my family. I tell her what happens every day with my family and she never believes they are talking about me. She either says "Did you hear the whole conversation", or try to get my stupid negative thinking to change into something positive. I know my mother talks crap about me because she one day was talking to my father and she said "your daughter has funny looking features"; yes I actually heard her say this. Every time I tell my therapist I get bullied she always tries to say "maybe they were not talking about you" bullcrap. Many times I hear people say out loud "she is ugly", then they glare at me. It has been two months and she still says the same thing. I really don't feel any better when I leave her office. I feel like I am alone with my problems and that no one believes me. This is not the first time I have had bad experiences with therapist and psychiatrist. The only good therapist I had was a lady in Lanham, MD who actually knew my family was talking crap about me because I showed her a text message that was sent by my aunt but was supposed to go to my mom, but accidentally went to me. However, she got aggravated all the time whenever I told her that it bothered me that my family talks crap about me. Then she would say "why should you care what people think" in an annoyed voice.

If you are uncomfortable with your current therapist by all means switch, after all she is there to listen to you and make you feel heard.

Hello Danae102: Well... I'd have to say I've never had very good experiences with therapists myself. So I'm not a fan, in general. However, many people do have good experiences. I presume it's simply finding the right one for you. And I know this can take some time. So if your current therapist isn't providing you with what you need, certainly try a different one.

This appears to be your first posts here on PC. So... to PsychCentral… from the Skeezyks! May the time you spend here be of benefit.

PsychCentral is a great place to get information as well as support for mental health issues. The more you post, & reply to other members’ posts, the more a part of the community you will become. Plus there are social groups you can join & chat rooms where you’ll be able to connect with other PC members in real time (once your first 5 posts have been reviewed & approved.) Lots of great stuff! So please keep posting!

Sounds as if your T is trying to get you to recognize that not all conversations are about you. But she could be a bit more supportive. Maybe you should talk to her about how this feels to you?
