I see my T today. I didn't feel the need to email her this week so I didn't. She said, after the EMDR, that maybe I'd have a dream. No dreams that I recall. I don't think I need to talk about my mother more right now. Being shut out is still an issue, but there are other things going on in my life to discuss. I feel more at peace with my past, so maybe EMDR worked? Or maybe I'm too overwhelmed with real life at the moment. I don't want to spend my $100 talking about paying it to her! It seems like more at stake to accomplish more for that money. Not a good attitude. Probably better to not think about the money and go on as before. I'm trying to decide what to focus on other than the fee issue. It was my decision so should NOT need to be a topic for discussion!

Since it is obviously bothering you, it might be a good idea to bring it up.

I said it was hard to pay it because I never earned more than $18 or $19 per hour. She said thank-you and I didn't feel like pursuing it. So different from my fantasy of giving it her and breaking down in tears! I never break down in tears.

The exorbitant fee my therapist charged was one of the cues which allowed me to leave therapy and not return. Every time I was tempted to book an appointment, I remembered the cost, and all the better things that money could buy.

Going forward, you may find the increased cost allows you to look at therapy from a more practical standpoint. Is she really doing $100 of work? Are you really getting $100 of value out of each session? Is her work really five times more valuable than the work you used to do?

Your answers may be very different from mine. Unless I was in a severely distressed state and therapy was the difference between life and death, or life and exceptional misery, I don't think a therapist could provide anywhere near $100 worth of value.
Thanks for this!

All I did yesterday at my session was talk but I still need my T. She's been my T for almost 7 years now and I don't want to leave her. I need her less but I still need her. It's not worth $100 but that's the choice I made.

Yes! I paid a copay of about $20 a week or less for 5 years, then I had to change insurance. She gave me a reduced fee of $75 for 2 years but just last week I started giving her $100. It's a lot of money but her fee is $150. She could have terminated me but she didn't. I think I will see her less often but I can't bring myself to do it yet. I'm very attached to her.

Oh my gosh. I would have to stop meeting with my therapist if he charged that much. It would absolutely break my heart, but we just can't afford that. I have only been meeting with him for 3.5 years now.

Have you asked her yet if you can go back to the reduced rate?

just want to say I don't even come CLOSE to your lowest pay wage

luckily my T still takes my insurance, and is so awesome that she asks each week if she needs to wait to deposit my check.

I am pretty sure this all came from Rainbow. She realized she could afford to pay her more, so she is.
Thanks for this!

No, because it was my idea to pay her more. Maybe subconsciously I did it as in incentive to see her less often.

That's nice of your T to do that. Mine would have let me pay the $75 forever but she knows I'm spending money on other services, so her fee should come first. I'm being fair to her although paying $100/week is more than I would like to pay for sure!

Yes, you're correct. It came from me. I can afford it, at least right now I can. Others in this forum pay out-of-pocket too. I'm not the only one who pays a lot.
Thanks for this!
