I guess I'll bring this in on Friday. Blah. It's the only way I can express what happened. My way. I doubt I'll read it to him. Probably just hand it to him and let him read it while I look for places to hide.

Between the internal and external
there is you, tucking a plush toy
into my arms and pulling the Indian
cover so that I will never be a meteor
again, and you will make sure of that
because you sit across the room in a
canvas chair that was never there before
tonight, reading quietly to yourself as I
sleep, hours after I asked if you thought
I was sick and disgusting for choosing
to examine my insides, and you told me
that while you wished I wouldn’t do it,
it’s acceptable for now because for some
odd reason you understand why it works,
but that was yesterday, and today my
satisfaction is a ten-dollar Buddha head
and the boxes that I open so carefully,
inspecting every inch as though they were
real and as though I appear from a different
country along with each insignificant lid
contained by limits of green and gold.

It's a wonderful poem, but I don't know that he'll get it right away without all the background you've given us; no need to start in hiding, plenty of time to run later :-)

I suppose I will have to talk about it after he reads it. He has read so many of my poems without explanation.... but I have not been there when he reads them... and so far, I have chosen never to bring them up! This time he will read it right in front of me so I guess I will have to explain.

pink, your poem had a lot of interesting imagery. What is the $10 Buddha head? What is the green and the gold? What kind of plush toy did you see in your fantasy? Was it a Teddy, a dog, a hippo?

My husband and I went to Pier 1 Imports to look at furniture.... and we saw this little Buddah head statue... and then I saw this package with three small, jeweled boxes... they are so pretty.... he bought both things for me and it made me really happy, such simple things.

In my fantasy, T put a teddy in my arms.
