This evening I will be meeting with a new T about EMDR. My head is all over the place. On the one hand I feel okay and I've got this. From our phone conversations she seems pleasant. Then the other part of me fears telling somebody my story and feeling judged... I woke with a pounding headache so that probably doesn't help.

I hope it goes well today. If she's an EMDR specialist, then I'm sure she's heard about all types and levels of trauma. I still understand your concern about being judged though.
Thanks for this!

It went well. She seems like a really nice and professional person. We discussed my concerns and she was confident we can work with those issues so that I feel safe. I am feeling pretty good about trying it out with her. At one point I mentioned the importance of my faith. While she does not usually tells her clients about her faith she did disclose that we are the same religion.

Me too! And that you won't have to worry about the religious aspect either.

Firstly, good luck & you will be fine. I've had EMDR & am waiting to have more. You don't have to tell your story at all. I just had to work with the images that came up. They had a brief history of my trauma, but I didn't share anything at all. I was given the option to respond how ever I wanted to. Mostly I spoke of the feelings that came up & then had to hold an image to go with them. It's brilliant!!! I was incredibly tired afterwards & sometimes just came home & slept for hours. Good luck again. xXx
Thanks for this!

I remember that when I first had EMDR - I sometimes would not last pass 6.00 pm and have to go to bed , but it does get better - promise ! And it's very worth it.

That is a little concerning. I work a 9 hour day the appt. is at 5 then I drive an hour for a 7:00 meeting...so a long day. I am seeing a coffee stop in my schedule.

It is best to have nothing planned after an EMDR session, especially your first few as it is rather taxing (in an exhausting way). Sometimes I have to stay at the office because I cannot operate a car. If I can drive I go home and immediately into bed.

If your T is good ( and it sounds like she is ) she will make sure that you are OK to travel. My T does this using various techniques like breathing and other things like butterfly hugs. The first EMDR T you saw I found very concerning , I hope you will do well with this one. Are you still seeing your regular T too ?

Yes, I will continue to see regular T through this.

I talked to new t about the drive home and concern for my safety. She assured me there are ways we will make sure I am safe for my drive home. She did a good job of it at the initial session.
