Ha, I thought of some more. It's great that I can think of so many more positive ones than negative ones (for the other thread).
I love it whenever he uses the word "relationship" to describe what we have together. "You're so cute." He's said this several times to me and I love it. I see it as an affectionate and amused comment, from him, that the way I am gives him some pleasure, if that makes sense. Recently, he said it to someone else on the phone in my presence, and he really, really likes and respects this person, so it made me feel good, like he must really like and respect me, since he says the same thing to me. (how's that for convoluted logic?)

Another good one-- "What can I do to help you feel safe in here?"

Oh and another...
Last week when we were on the phone talking about my SI: "Is there anything else I can do right now to help you?" Um, yeah. Ditch your remaining patients for the day, come to my school, and hang out with me, lol It was just the fact that he asked.... |

And I like it too! pinksoil, since you are training to be a T, is there a therapist manual somewhere of phrases to say to your clients that will make them feel good? Sometimes it seems like our Ts use such similar wording, they must learn this stuff somewhere rather than each one coming up with it independently.

No manuals, but I think that the overall goal for a lot of therapeutic relationships is the same-- to create a safe place for the patient to express him/herself... a lot of the goals are similar so it makes for similar phrases, I'm thinking.

"Therapy is knowing I am there for you" And, something so amazing one day ... as she was talking to me, I remember thinking at one point "OMG this is pure happyness just to be here with her" & being filled with this thought.. then I was back to what she was saying.. and right then she said : "I just saw something in your eyes, what was it?" ![]() And me, amazed, feeling awkward... "hum, nothing that is not about here and now" ![]() I really couldn't say "oh I was just suddenly hit by the thought that I 'm sooooooo happy to be here with you!" |

Oh on Friday T and I were talking about the SI and then I got really quiet because I started having images of the SI... I didn't say a word to him about it.... I just sat there in silence.... and after a few minutes, T said,
"Do you want to tell me about the images?" He knew. I didn't have to say one single word, and he knew. |

I thought of another one, he always says when we have a weekend phone conversation:
"I'll be here, or "I'll be around if you need me." I never call back again, but knowing he is there is enough to sustain me till I see him again. ![]()

"I wanted to ask you. How would you like to be able to call as often as you wish to throughout the week...and if you would like a call back, say that when you call and I will call you back ...?"
yeah.... ![]() . |

Another one from pdoc: "I'm not going away. I'm not going anywhere."
And from T: "You'll do a better job of this than me when you're a therapist." Something along those lines.

T said this during the session before he went away for a week--
"Which one of your poems should I take along with me?" |

Pdoc: Call me over the weekend if you need me.
After an EMDR session, T: I really enjoyed spending this time with you. I think we both learned a lot. ![]() |

"Of course I think of you in between sessions."
That was an important one for me to hear. I'm so glad he said it. |

"I am thinking about you." (in an email)
I can't think of exact words, but I really like it when he gets mad at my husband on my behalf. Since I am not really able to be angry at him, it helps me to have others express anger at him. My sister does this for me too.

Can I pray for you?
I was thinking about you at home last night. Do you feel safe here? I care about you. |

You have me, I'm here for you
I read an article about PTSD and thought of you... There is this movie I saw recently that you need to watch... I'm sure there is more just can't think right now.

"Get what you need out of this relationship." "Some people say they wish I could hold them." I love that he said this and got it out in the open. I haven't taken him up on it yet, but when I do it won't be the first time it's been mentioned between us!

i love when she talks. i'll sit there in silence and she'll talk a few minutes, then when she's done she tilts her head and waits for me to respond. almost as if to say "what do you think about what i just said". usually after that there is a long silence... and i love when she so softly says..
"what. why are you so quiet" i just wanna jump into her arms and cry. i wish that was acceptable.

omg i thought of another one that ill NEVER ever forget...
we were talking about me having an eating disorder. and i was so curious if she had previously suffered from one. because all her clients tend to have Ed's and she had ed books and shes just relatively thin. so i said.. "did you have an eating disorder?" and she looked at me so softly and said "yes. and you are my only client that knows that. not even some of my co workers know that." and i said "why did you tell me?" and she said "because i think you already knew" omgomgomgomg i almost died. i think my smile didnt leave my face until i got home.
