Hi Guy`s ,

I will be seeing a new therapist next week at 5:30 , could it be that it will only be a half an hour and not a full therapy hour ( 50 min. ) ?

I mean its tuff enough , I just don`t see how 1/2 an hour is going to do much other than proper introductions.

Or is a 1/2 the new hour ?????

All replies are kindly welcome and appreciated , thanks , U know it`s hard enough .

Thanks , take care

Our first "see if we fit" meeting was about half an hour. Normal sessions are 45 minutes.

I wouldn't go by the start time as any indication of a shortened session. My therapist's start times vary throughout the day and only one time slot actually starts at the top of the hour and it's the first one of the day. I am sure you will get your full appointment.

Mine are 60 minutes. Sometimes my appointments start on the hour and sometimes they start on the half hour, so I don't think the start time necessarily indicates the session length.

Some initial sessions are even longer than an hour if they have you fill out instruments and stuff so yeah, I wouldn't assume you're bring short changed.

My therapist often schedules on the half- or even quarter-hour, if he's got a busy day because he's been out sick or away for part of the week. Still have the same session length.

Used to be 1 hr with my previous therapist (who was a douche). Now it's 40 minutes with a better therapist.

I don't mind the shorter time span since I seem to get a lot done in those 40 mins compared to that 1 hour with Dr. Douche.

With C (T I'm trying out), my sessions start at 4:30 and end at 5:20 (50 minutes).

With J (T I've been seeing), my sessions start at 4:30 and go to 5:30 (60 minutes).

50 +/- for L, 60 +/- for M.

Neither of them are rocket scientists about precision. But I don't really pay much attention.

In L's office there is only one tiny clock, placed behind me so that L can keep track but I don't see. I didn't even know it was there the first year I saw her. M has five clocks in his office..... which I also only noticed recently. As I said, I don't pay attention.

50 minutes - I toss money down and walk out as soon as the time is up on the clock facing me. If there was no clock - I would set my watch alarm or put it on my knee.

Former jerk T #1 was exactly 50 minutes and not a second more, thanks to the obnoxious alarm on his phone! Current, better, T, I get a full 60 minutes, and sometimes we run over a bit. (I've used my insurance with both therapists.) Current T just keeps a clock next to where the patients sit, out of my line of sight.

I agree with others, scheduling isn't necessarily an indication, although first session may or may not be shorter. I think with my former T our first session was only 30-40 mins, but my current one he took the full 60 mins for the first session. Sending good thoughts your way this works out! :-)

Around 90 minutes. I know that's outside the norm, but she's also solely self pay and works with a very specific population. She schedules even longer for her first sessions. But, yes, I agree that start times mean nothing in terms of length.

Mine are 60 minutes + a few if needed. With Disasters 1 & 2, they went from 90 minutes to 3 hours. I'm not used to only 1 hour, but I think it's healthy for me right now because C doesn't take advantage of me or my time.

Hi ,

Thanks for your info , it appreciated

I hope my app. is more than 30min. , I can easily see how a person could use several hours.

I really don`t like time limits , how long does something take ? , until the job is done or in the case of seeing a counselor , enough time so you might feel better on the way home.

Of course if this were a perfect world , we would not need therapist !! LOL

Sometimes I feel ok , other times I feel great and think I can do this or that and other times I feel so bad I just want to crawl under a rock and the pain is so bad , I never get emotional , I just hurt , all over , like I just went 12 rounds with a young Rocky Balboa !!

Just when I think I have a handle on things , the wind blows in a new direction , and I am back in the dumps.

Being here and getting advice and help , and helping out where ever I can , is so great , I mean really.

It feels like if I can place my thoughts on helping others , then I don`t have to worry about mine. Putting in that way may sound selfish , but my sincerity is very real.

I find my self talking to strangers , saying hello , holding doors offer to help whenever and wherever , just so I don`t have to think about me. It`s great to help others , it would be really great if have the helping was done I liked myself , I am just so lonely .

OK , I am not going to bum out the whole forum , get a grip kid !!

Anyway , thanks for hearing me or reading me , or whatever

Later and as always , if anyone needs anything or support , just PM me
