I would not do such a thing, but I did not feel a need to thank the therapist in the first place. I don't see a therapist as needing or deserving of gratitude. The woman did nothing except sit there and get handed an inordinate amount of money to do so.
However, I don't see harm in it.

I think it sounds nice. Learning how to express gratitude seems like a very therapy-appropriate skill to practice.

I do that with the Christmas card. I also do it a couple of times throughout the year in cards and other times when it just hits in my journal. At our last therapiversary I did a longer letter talking about the journey and changes I've seen.

I haven’t done a yearly thank you letter or email but have thanked PrevT and T a few times when the mood strikes me.
Go ahead, if you feel you want to do it. |

I sometimes have given small gifts at Christmas.
This year, instead, I wrote a kind of thank you letter at Thanksgiving. I put some specifics of things she's helped me with and how I feel better able to deal in real life. My goal was to give her more useful feedback than my usual end of session mumbled "thanks". I handed it to her in session but she read it later. She sent me a short but lovely text after she read it. I felt good about it. |

I think its never wrong to say thank you. Yes, we pay them, yet I dont think thats a reason not to thank someone. My own clients thank me, and they pay tons to the company I work for.
I gave my T a thank you card at thanksgiving, and she was very touched. For what she does for me, telling her that I am thankful is all I can do. I always keep it short and to the point, but I have never given someone a thank you card or letter and gotten a bad response.

I don't do thank you notes, but I think it is fine to do that if you want to.
IMO people in general should do a lot more thanking that we tend to do. |

DP, I think it's a lovely idea. Everyone likes to feel appreciated.
Your t will probably enjoy knowing that what he's doing is helpful and meaningful to you.
