I like fellow traveler a lot. I do think of T that way, now that you say it. But I also have other people in my life who I call or consider that, and I don't pay them. Maybe we (and by that I mean me) put too much emphasis on the payment part and/or the non bean-counting mutuality of the T relationship. Because my T shares a lot with me, not intimate details of his current life, but his experiences that align with mine. I do think it is mutual, just not in a way that models any other relationship.
Thanks for this!

Thanks for writing this post! I still like heartmates best but the others are possibilities.

This is so wonderful rainbow, that your therapist told you to do that. I wish me and my therapist would do similar things, but sadly we don't.

Heartmates. So powerful and special. There is something about this word that really makes me feel emotional, mostly in a good way. Now i miss my therapist more. Wish you all the best.

T didn't object to heartmates at all! She liked it! I knew she would. She told me not to pay attention to people who think it's too intimate or that these words might be inappropriate. She mentioned a speaker she heard who said all Ts should or do love their clients. I forget which!

We mostly talked about my health but it's nice to know T and I are heartmates!

I like the term heart mates also. My T and I often talk about how we are part of each other’s hearts forever.
Thanks for this!

Im not sure anyone here thinks its too intimate or inappropriate as such

Therapy is intimate but one way.

To me a name like fellow traveller is actually a good description. It doesnt imply a mutual relationship but a sense that your T is part of your journey for some of the way.
Thanks for this!

Heartmates bypasses those concerns. It IS mutual when it comes to our hearts. My T and I genuinely love each other even though I am the client and she's my T.

Fellow travelers is good, but in a different way. It's neutral whereas heartmates is warm and vibrant, and exactly the right word for me. T had such a genuine smile when I asked what she thought of it. I'm happy.

I emailed T, thanking her for the way she helped me cope with my physical pain on Wednesday. She emailed back and signed it: "Love from your heartmate, T"

Now that's MY kind of therapy!
