I called her yesterday to see if I should increase a med. In any case, I mentioned that I was decreasing my Adderall a bit.

Her response? Oh, good good, that is a wonderful decision. What??
This all reminded me that a few weeks ago when Topamax was fogging up my brain and I said I needed to detox (joke on my part) she said 'so, you want a second opinion then?'.

My T mentioned before that she doesn't work with him and competes for therapy services. Honestly, she would be awful at therapy I think. I can never get a word in edgewise and she hesitates constantly with every word she says to me.

You know the type, they talk slow and clear like you can't understand them or something.

I dislike having to go to a p-doc. I asked her once if she and my T discussed what happened one session (med related) and she said 'oh, I'll take your word for it'...

I'm sensing something here. I can tell that she doesn't like me taking the Adderall and can't understand it. My fear?? She wants to change my diagnosis. If it is the one I am thinking...no way!!!

Is anyone else experiencing this weirdness having a T and a p-doc?

Hi almeda, I had a pdoc and therapist who worked in the same practice. It was wonderful because they did talk with each other. But, it may have worked out for me because both of them were very good at what they did.

I am picky about my pdocs...I would probably not continue one who treated me like that. Do you have any other options available?

I'm looking into other p-docs. Preferably one that is not in my insurance plan. I don't like all the information that my employer or insurance company gets...

What a frustrating process ya know? I need to do something soon...

We don't submit claims for my daughter's therapist even though she is covered because we don't want a diagnosis and record of psychotherapy going in her medical record. I'm comfortable making the decision of what goes in my own medical records, but I don't want to make that decision for my daughter, who is a minor, and in any way limit her future options. I have had 3 different therapists tell me that is a very good decision (if I can afford it).

Almeda,
Can you ask your T to recommend a P-doc with which he/she works?

ADD and migraines?

Were your migraines such a problem before you started taking Adderall (ADD meds)?

I have both T and P-doc. I don't compare between the 2 because T is T and Pdoc is Pdoc!

Pdoc is just for issues related to my meds in my case. (whether my depression is under control or not)

It's not unusual for T and p-doc to have different diagnoses. It happens all the time.

Hey Sunny, my T diagnosed the ADD way back and my family doctor had started me on Adderall at his suggestion.

When I finally asked for a referral from T for a P-doc it was just because my family doctor wasn't able to regulate me and really a p-doc does this every day.

So, I'll ask her on Wednesday directly what my questions are...I hate the passive/aggressive side to me...blah!

I don't have migraines...? Maybe because I mentioned I was on Topamax...this was to stablize my moods not for migraines sorry for the confusion
