I said other, I don't ask for anything but she changes where she sits so she is sat closer to me as she knows I feel more comfortable that way.

My T did but I didn't ask. I am light sensitive so we used to have the main light off. Eventually in winter it got too dark out to do this and when I went in one day she had bought a lamp for the room.

I would never ask my T to change anything in her office for me. It’s just not something that I would do. Once I start talking to my T, everything else in the room just seems to fade away. I like that this happens for me because it allows me, instead, to be highly focused on the conversation to the point where nothing else matters.

i wish I could have chosen multiple answers:
- no, it is not my place to do so
- no, it is not my office
- no, it would imply a less than professional doctor/patient relationship

However, I have commented on his office and the surroundings. We have had entire discussions on the art on the walls (which now includes a piece of my own).

I should point out though that while I would never move things around or make changes, I do grab the bull by the horns and sit down as per my choosing. He has several places to sit. Whereas he once directed me to one or the other of them, I now barge in and select whichever place I wish to sit. Sometimes he seems a little irritated I think. No matter, the session is about me, isn't it.

So the changing is all about where the clients sit, where the therapist sits, and the lighting in the room? I'm honestly not trying to sound snarky; obviously I'm on the wrong side of this question. I guess I'm conceited enough to think that other clients feel the same way about the atmosphere as I do and apparently they don't.

Maybe I'm influenced by the fact that after my therapist's really crappy office burned down he built a beautiful office (without my advice btw) and I miss it.

And just also, I don't expect my therapist to tell me where I can and can't sit and I don't expect them to attach any meaning to where I do sit. They can just put one chair out if they care.

I answered no, but I will say my last T’s set up bugged me.

She had a leather reclining high-backed seat with a leather foot stool that looked so butttery and comfy, while I had a cheap, tiny low-backed ikea-looking loveseat that was nothing to sink into.

I don’t think there’s a wrong side of this question- people are just talking about their experiences, no?
Thanks for this!

I said yes.

It took me quite a while until I was able to ask but now I sometimes ask her to close the blinds (you can see inside the room from the street) if she doesn't already do it automatically for me. I've also asked her to turn the fan on or off in the summer.

I always move a pillow on her sofa so I can sit right next to the arm.
