Hello,

Has anyone here had a long time therapist ever retire? My therapist is the only person I trust and the first adult I ever trusted with anything. I don't know what to do next year. It feels like my mom just said, well kid, I'm retiring. Talk to you on the phone now and again....

I’m sorry. This does hurt. My long term t never retired but I am in a different state so he isn’t licensed to treat me anymore. When I visit family once a year I do go see him but our email contact has dried up. I used to be able to email if I had something urgent I needed help with. I’ve been rebuffed the last few times though.

I have had two t’s since that have worked out it and I never thought that would be possible after t1. But it can be done. I won’t lie it is painful but you will find a way to be ok, even thrive without them.

Mine of 9 years retired last year. A 27 year relationship I imagine is going to be an incredible new life chapter for you.

My therapist is 67 and I believe his total retirement (he only works part time now) is very much on the horizon. I have "only" seen him for 9 years but my belief is that what I have learned with him will translate to a new therapist.

Mine has cut back her hours, and I don't think she takes new clients anymore. I have been with her since 1988 or 1989.

Mine is getting up in age, so far he has not mentioned anything about retireing. Big hugs to you it's very tough. I hope he will help you find someone new and that it wont be so painful

Mine didn't exactly retire, she got sick and isn't able to see me anymore. It's incredibly painful not having her in my life every week and not being able to email her whenever I need to. It's been a very difficult transition. ((HUGS)) to you if you want them.
