My therapist is psychodynamic but we don’t really talk about dreams. I guess I brought one up once but we didn’t delve into it too much.
Last night I dreamt that my therapist’s daughter was just accepted at Harvard. In the dream I was bummed because I felt there was nothing I could say or do that would be as good or as interesting as that. In real life I think his kids are in their 30’s and did *not* attend Harvard. Also in real life, my daughter is graduating from high school and will be attending a university on the east coast of the U.S. (not Harvard). This dream seems so incredibly obvious that I’m not sure I should bring it up. Obviously something about how I don’t feel good enough, etc. Do you discuss your dreams about your therapist with your therapist? Should I bring it up even though it doesn’t seem particularly earth shattering? |

I have but they have all been abandonment ones, he didn't seem to phased and we didn't go into them much at all. You could mention it but it might not be anything they think is worth getting into, it is fairly common to dream about them

Yes, though I've only had 1 dream about my t. She was very helpful with it. We do a lot of dream work. She offers plenty of insight, usually something I wasn't able to see myself. I do not believe a dream needs to be earth shattering to make it worthy of discussing. If it's something you want to bring up, you should.

I'd bring it up. I've told my T about the two dreams I've had involving him (well, I left one part out of the last one), and he was fine discussing them, even though transference stuff (not saying that's necessarily what's going on with you) makes him a bit uncomfortable.

I'd share about transference whom over the past have you anxious about. Ulltimately it is not my place to meet you where you are in this to answer the question it is just share who worries you. If there is too much of a reminder then you have grown regressed or just isn't for you that is all about what identity is and growing with society not being recluse. Investigate the stressors of life then they should be a apart of the society circle to some degree.
If I'd had to share if I'm getting with several therapist I'm on the journey of dealing with several folks abuse in our youth. If I got it out for women we are more geared toward the maschoinist journey. If I like women too much we are sharing about attachments and go the other way with dating. If they need it all then someone needs to tell me about additional session say two hours and two per week . Possibly a once a week |

What would you gain from telling the therapist about the dream?

Not sure really which is why I was asking. I feel like it’s one of those cliche things that you are supposed to do in therapy. Pretty much everything I do in therapy feels awkward and out of my comfort zone so I guess this would just be another one of those things. I guess in the long run I’m trying to be more authentic and make better choices for myself instead of repeating patterns that don’t work well for me. I have no idea if talking about my dream will get me there.
